Shift Maintenance Technician

Job Summary / Purpose

The Shift Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems on plant and equipment, with specific focus on plastic injection moulding machinery. The role requires working on a rotating shift basis and ensuring minimum machine downtime while maintaining high safety, quality, and operational standards.

Working Hours

As per Shift Roster:

  • 3 Day Shifts – 3 Night Shifts – 3 Days Off
  • Day Shift: 07:00 – 18:00
  • Night Shift: 18:00 – 07:00

During company peak periods, the technician may be required to work outside normal hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance & Fault Finding
  • Conduct daily maintenance checks on:
    • Injection moulding machines
    • Decorating equipment
    • Plant service equipment
  • Diagnose and repair:
    • Mechanical faults
    • Hydraulic faults
    • Pneumatic faults
    • Electrical and electronic faults
  • Resolve barrel heater temperature faults
  • Attend to oil leaks and hydraulic failures
  • Diagnose pump faults and failures
  • Replace pumps, motors, circuit breakers, and related components
  • Test motors and diagnose electrical issues
Injection Moulding Equipment
  • Strip injection screws and assess:
    • Screw tips
    • Check rings
    • Related components
  • Diagnose hydraulic and electronic valve faults and repair or replace as required
  • Inspect tie bars for damage or failure
  • Strip and install tie bars and tie bar nuts
  • Inspect toggles for wear and lubrication
  • Strip and install toggles when necessary
Mechanical Systems
  • Carry out lubrication according to recommended schedules
  • Inspect linear bearings and rails on all moving components
  • Strip, replace, and install linear bearings and rails
  • Strip ejector plates and ejector cylinders
  • Replace seals on cylinders
Electrical & Instrumentation
  • Diagnose and resolve sensor faults
  • Repair or replace transducers
  • Attend to safety circuit faults
  • Inspect, repair, or replace:
    • Door switches
    • Safety switches
    • Interlock systems
Plant & Services Equipment
  • Maintenance and repairs on:
    • Cooling towers
    • Chillers
    • Compressors
  • Replace water pipes, fittings, clamps, and related components
Operational Support
  • Attend promptly to machine stoppages and breakdowns
  • Reduce machinery downtime
  • Execute planned preventative maintenance
  • Identify and rectify safety risks
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards
  • Ensure upkeep of maintenance tools and equipment
  • Support production efficiency and plant reliability
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Complete and submit all maintenance reports as required
  • Conduct proper shift handovers
  • Assist with training of staff where required
