Introduction

A VACANCY EXISTS FOR A EXPERIENCED MATERNITY REGISTERED NURSE

Main Focus Areas

The role of a Senior Professional Nurse is to function as a competent clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area and to deliver direct patient care whilst coordinating and overseeing the nursing / Maternity practice. To deputize for the Maternity manager in her absence driving forward evidence-based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.

Key Performance Areas

• Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
• In conjunction with the Unit manager be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Maternity teams effectively motivating and directing staff to ensure that time and resources are managed through effective teamwork.
• To deputise for the Unit manager when necessary.
• To assist the Unit Manager in the management of staff within their Unit including specific induction recruitment and selection training performance management sickness / absence and appraisals.
• Ensure that continuous training takes place in Maternity.

Post Requirements

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
• Post basic qualification in Maternity will be beneficial
• 2-3 years management or supervisory / shift leading experience in Maternity will be advantageous
• Clinical knowledge of Maternity essential
• Advanced Computer Literacy
• Capacity to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accredited bodies and appropriate health legislation
• Flexible in working hours / Shifts
