Sales Director (Processed Meats Industry)

Our client, a proudly South African meat processing business with a solid reputation for consistency, is looking for a dynamic Sales Director to join their Management Team. They specialise in creating high-quality ready-to-eat meat products that cater to a wide range of consumer tastes and preferences. With roots tracing back to 1960, they bring decades of expertise in both retail and manufacturing to the table.

Your previous retailer/buyer, sales and brand management experience and proven track record as a business development specialist, as well as your expertise in managing a team of sales professionals qualifies you to apply.

Location: Springfield, Durban. Reports to CEO. 35% of business is KZN-based. 60% of sales is to the retail industry. Untapped tier 2 informal sector offers expansion opportunities.

Main Purpose of the role
  • Increase business development efforts to drive sales and enable the factory to work at capacity in terms of production.
  • Improve sales force performance and build a strong sales presence going forward.
  • Put building blocks in place for current and future growth, formalise sales strategies and processes to expand national presence.
  • Oversee brand development and marketing initiatives.
Requirements
  • Proven success in business development and brand management (ideally in the meat industry; processed meats or FMCG industry first prize).
  • Current or previous relationships with retailers to leverage off are imperative.
  • Strong Sales Manager in terms of team management (able to counsel, guide, mentor, discipline, and ensure motivation and drivers are in place for team).
  • High energy, fast moving, hungry for success and to take a business to the next level in terms of profitability.
  • Persuasive and credible with exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Ability to spot new business ideas and market gaps and to sell them internally.
