The ideal candidate will have 5 years of marine insurance and claims management experience, with strong expertise in maritime laws and conventions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely responses and resolution of cargo claims and lawsuits with minimal impact on operations and markets.
  • Negotiate cargo claims settlements on the most favorable terms, guided by legal principles.
  • Identify potential third-party liabilities and actively pursue cargo claims recovery.
  • Manage and follow up on cargo claims reimbursements from insurers.
  • Maintain and report on end-to-end claims-handling best practices across all available platforms.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to support claims responses in major incidents.
  • Assist management with reporting on claims and loss prevention practices, when required.
  • Identify and address process or knowledge gaps to reduce legal and financial exposure arising from contractual clauses and operational practices.
  • Provide operational teams with guidance on non-standard situations during pre-carriage, pre-delivery, and post-delivery phases.
  • Appoint, instruct, and manage external lawyers for legal proceedings and major incidents as necessary.
  • Manage in-house retained claims and key customer claims.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Law, Maritime Legal Studies, or Marine Insurance preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant marine insurance and claims management experience with shipowners, ship managers, P&I Clubs, or their correspondents.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime laws and conventions related to cargo liabilities.
  • Proven ability to work independently with strong communication and supervisory skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the container liner industry is advantageous.
  • Resilient, with a strong sense of urgency and ability to work effectively under demanding timelines.
  • Proficiency in business applications and IT tools such as SAP, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
