Position Overview

As an Investment Director, you will be a driving force in Motion Ventures’ deal activity. Working closely with our team, you’ll lead end-to-end investment processes, from initial sourcing and due diligence to term sheet negotiation and execution. You will also mentor and manage our Associates, guiding them to excel in all aspects of venture investing.

Key Responsibilities

Deal Sourcing & Evaluation

• Identify and evaluate high-potential startups in maritime digitalisation and new energy transition.
• Develop theses around transformative B2B tech solutions, from advanced software and hardware to other emerging technologies, that shape the maritime sector (and beyond).

Due Diligence & Analysis

• Oversee rigorous due diligence processes (financial, strategic, operational, and go-to-market).
• Produce clear, data-driven investment memos for the Investment Committee.

Investment Execution

• Collaborate with the General Partner to structure deals, negotiate term sheets, and close transactions.
• Maintain a strong grasp of the regulatory and legal aspects associated with global venture deals.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Manage and mentor Associates, guiding their growth in both technical analysis and broader deal process execution.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and accountability aligned with Motion Ventures’ core values.

Strategic Insights

• Contribute to refining Motion Ventures’ investment strategy, particularly in emerging areas within maritime, energy transition, and broader supply chain.
• Offer strategic perspectives on portfolio companies’ operations and GTM models, supporting robust investment decisions.

Future Leadership Path

• Take advantage of a clear growth trajectory towards Head of Investments or higher, shaping the overall direction of our fund’s portfolio and strategy.

Qualifications

• Experience:
  • 4+ years of experience at a top-tier venture capital or private equity fund (or a comparable investing role).
  • Demonstrated track record leading multiple deal processes, ideally in relevant B2B or industrial technology sectors (e.g. enterprise software, hardware, deep-tech), but open to broader tech backgrounds.
• Skill Set:
  • Strong financial modelling, negotiation, and legal/contractual acumen.
  • Ability to evaluate complex technical solutions, especially in B2B and hardware contexts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including investment memo crafting.
• Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Experience managing junior team members on deals.
  • Collaborative approach; thrives in fast-paced environments where success is a shared team effort.
• Domain Interest:
  • Maritime or energy transition knowledge is a plus, but not required.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new industry verticals.
