USAID Family Health and Nutrition Project (FHN) is a five-year, USAID-funded project that will contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality and under five mortalities, through collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), Ministry of Health (MOH), communities and other local partners, to improve the health system performance and to deliver high-quality, accessible Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, And Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH&N) care.

Working in four Provinces, Eastern, Luapula, Muchinga, and Southern, FHN will work with MOH provincial and district counterparts to deliver high-quality services, strengthen health systems, and increase community engagement.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Community Engagement Advisor is a full-time position, and reports to the Community Engagement Lead. The Community Engagement Advisor contributes to the achievement of the overall goal of the FHN Project through increasing MoH and Community engagement and feedback for improved RMNCAH&N care.

• Provide technical leadership and oversight to the FHN Community team in the assigned province, consolidating their contributions to FHN, reviewing strategies and making sure they are quality and aligned to FHN expectations.
• Accountable for quality of community technical assistance (TA) to the MOH in all districts in the assigned province.
• Contribute to provincial and district annual planning/MTEF cycle and provide support during implementation.
• Contribute to key FHN deliverables: Annual Workplan, Annual Planning Cycle (MTEF) Report, Sustainability Framework, Annual Progress Reports, and Final Activity Report.
• Advise the Community Engagement Team Lead and FHH/Jhpiego Provincial TA Lead on what to include in the FHN budget
• Contribute to the FHN Project’s key deliverables: Annual Workplan, Annual Planning Cycle (MTEF) Report, Sustainability Framework, Annual Progress Reports, Lessons Learnt and Best Practices, and Final Activity Report.
• Develop annual activity work plans, as well as budgets based on expected year-end outputs; ensure close monitoring of activities and disbursements in order to promote empowerment and ownership.
• Participate in consultative meetings with other stakeholders on community engagement activities in provincial and district fora, making substantive contributions as appropriate

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in health-related field.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical support and mentorship to MOH (PHOs and DHO) and community structures (NHCs and HCC), CBOs, faith and traditional leadership.
• 5 years or more relevant work experience
• Strong communication and team building skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead efficient management processes and systems across a province-wide, decentralized program.
• Proven leadership, strategic thinking, and organizational, team-building, and representational skills.
• Strong knowledge of the Zambian health system.
• Experience supporting and building capacity of health workers, community-based providers, volunteers, and community structures and networks is advantageous;
• Ability to build capacity and collaboration community structures (NHC and HCC), CBOs, faith and traditional leadership
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required;
• Previous work engagements in Luapula, Muchinga, Southern, or Eastern Provinces
