Job summary

A leading consulting firm in Kuala Lumpur is seeking an experienced tax advisor to deliver comprehensive indirect tax advisory services. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines and at least 3 to 5 years’ experience in Malaysia Sales Tax. Proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia is required, with strong analytical skills and the ability to manage client relationships effectively. Work you’ll do
  • Support the engagement team in delivering comprehensive indirect tax advisory and compliance services to clients across various industries. This encompasses Malaysian Sales and Services Tax (SST), Goods and Services Tax (GST), import/export duties, as well as other indirect tax compliance and advisory matters.
  • Manage a broad spectrum of indirect tax issues, from routine compliance matters to complex cross-border transactions and regulatory challenges.
  • Analyze complex tax problems, identify core issues, evaluate available information, and develop integrated, practical solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, ensuring exceptional service delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, fostering a cooperative and productive working environment.
  • Mentor and guide junior and senior team members, supporting their professional development and growth.
  • Liaise and coordinate with government authorities, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, to resolve tax issues and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in business development activities by preparing proposals, delivering presentations, and identifying new client opportunities.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or related disciplines; possession of a professional accounting qualification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ relevant experience in Malaysia Sales Tax and Service Tax or customs related matters, preferably gained from an international accounting firm or a corporate environment.
  • Strong command of both written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia; proficiency in Chinese (written and spoken) will be considered an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical abilities with a keen eye for detail and strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Well‑developed organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a fast‑paced, dynamic team environment.
