About the Role

The Lead, Government Relations & Public Affairs manages the organisation’s engagement with government agencies, regulators, and relevant authorities, while supporting public affairs positioning and stakeholder communications. This role ensures approvals and compliance requirements are tracked, relationships are maintained, and key stakeholders are managed to support project continuity, organisational reputation, and long-term outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

A. Government & Regulatory Engagement

  • Serve as the key point of contact with government agencies, regulators, and relevant authorities
  • Coordinate official communications, submissions, meetings, briefings, and follow-ups
  • Support preparation and tracking of licensing, permits, approvals, endorsements, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain clear records of engagements, outcomes, action items, and audit-ready documentation

B. Stakeholder Management & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with external stakeholders (agencies, local leaders, neighbouring communities/concessions, strategic partners)
  • Support consultation processes and ensure consent/consultation records are properly documented (where applicable)
  • Identify stakeholder risks and propose mitigation plans to protect project continuity and organisational reputation

C. Public Affairs & Reputation Support

  • Support public affairs positioning by coordinating messaging, statements, and stakeholder communications when needed
  • Assist in issue management and crisis coordination (draft holding statements, coordinate responses, align internal stakeholders)
  • Monitor external developments (policy shifts, regulatory updates, stakeholder sentiment) and provide concise updates to CEO/management

D. Internal Coordination & Governance

  • Work cross-functionally to ensure stakeholder requirements are communicated and followed through
  • Prepare updates, reports, and briefing notes for management meetings with clear status tracking and next steps
  • Support admin/operational matters related to external relations as assigned by management
What We’re Looking For
  • Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Communications, Law, Business, or related field
  • 3–7 years of relevant experience in government relations, stakeholder engagement, corporate affairs, public affairs, or related role
  • Strong writing and communication (English & BM), including formal letters, memos, briefing notes, and summaries
  • Professional stakeholder management skills and discretion in handling sensitive/confidential matters
  • Strong coordination ability to track multiple engagements, deadlines, and documentation accurately
Nice to Have
  • Experience dealing with Malaysian government agencies and regulatory processes
  • Experience in conservation/land use/agriculture/environment/infrastructure/community-based projects
  • Familiarity with crisis communications / issues management
  • Existing networks/relationships with relevant external stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel to project sites or attend meetings outside normal hours when required
