Lead Engineer, Piping Material

We are currently based at KL Eco City, Malaysia.

Core Responsibilities
  • Manage engineering schedules and workflows from FEED to detailed design, coordinating with subcontractors and other disciplines.
  • Proactively develop recovery plans to address schedule delays and ensure project milestones are met.
  • Support quality control plans with engineering subcontractors and shipyards to achieve project and departmental quality objectives.
  • Estimate man-hours and manage project piping activities within budget constraints.
  • Guide, supervise, and motivate team members, sharing knowledge and experience.
  • Review and validate technical specifications, data sheets, drawings, and documents in accordance with industry standards, classification societies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in technical meetings and procurement reviews, addressing piping material issues to maintain project progress.
  • Oversee piping material requisitions and technical bid evaluations to support procurement decisions.
  • Monitor progress of piping engineering deliverables, packages, and vendor documentation; resolve technical issues with suppliers as needed.
  • Coordinate with construction and commissioning teams, providing technical support and resolving queries.
  • Document lessons learned for future projects through established processes.
HSEQ & Compliance
  • Adhere to MODEC’s HSEQ Code of Conduct, policies, standards, and procedures to ensure safety and environmental protection.
  • Comply with MODEC Group Policy Code of Business Conduct and Ethics at all times.
Financial & Operational Impact
  • Lead and manage a team of 20–25 engineers and designers on assigned projects.
  • Make technical decisions to minimize costs while meeting project requirements.
  • Plan and communicate staffing needs and resource adequacy to Section and Group Leads.
  • Mentor and train junior peers, supporting their career development.
Work Relationships
  • Report functionally to the Piping Section Lead and operationally to the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Interact extensively with engineering contractors, construction yards, commissioning teams, suppliers, clients, certifying authorities, and internal stakeholders (Procurement, Project Management, Construction, Quality, HSE, Operations).
Job Challenges
  • Independently handle technical and engineering matters, providing solutions while maintaining quality and schedule.
  • Meet stringent timelines with limited resources and shared manpower.
  • Implement challenging design modifications and manage unforeseen delays.
  • Maintain disciplined planning and resource management to meet project schedules.
  • Focus on delivering high-quality products and documentation.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must have a minimum 17 years of relevant experience in piping engineering within the oil and gas sector, preferably FPSO or offshore processing facilities.
  • At least 8 years in plant engineering and/or shipbuilding as a Senior Engineer, with significant experience leading project piping teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Material Management Systems (SPMAT, AVEVA ERM).
