Job description

We are seeking a dynamic and engaging Community Curator to join our team at 42 Penang. This role is pivotal in shaping the campus culture, enhancing student experiences, and maintaining strong relationships with various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, possess excellent organisational skills, and have a flair for creating vibrant community interactions.

42 Penang is the 3rd campus of the 42 Malaysia group, a non-profit nation building initiative in collaboration with Sunway Education, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Digital Penang & Sunway iLabs. The aim is to expand 42’s reach to the northern region and create the next generation of talents through its revolutionary peer-to-peer pedagogy. 42 Penang will be onboarding 100 students during its first year of operations in 2025.

The Community Curator will be a key figure in managing and enhancing the experiences of students at 42 Penang and participants of all other learning programmes. Additionally, this role is crucial in managing and curating outreach programmes to boost student applications. This role focuses on curating various activities and events, fostering relationships with stakeholders, and serving as a communication bridge between students and relevant parties.

Specific Duties of the Role

• Event Management and Curation:
• Plan, manage, and curate a variety of activities and events for 42 Penang ensuring they align with the institution’s goals and student needs.
• Engage and collaborate with community groups as part of outreach engagement.
• Collaborate with industry experts to curate content that is both educational and engaging for our students.
• Oversee the day-to-day campus environment to ensure a positive and conducive learning experience for students. Address and manage any issues that impact student experiences.
• Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and productive environment for all students and staff.
• Oversee the maintenance and aesthetic appeal of the campus facilities.

• Student Support and Enquiry Management:
• Aid students for non-pedagogical enquiries, ensuring their concerns and needs are addressed efficiently.
• Manage student inquiries and feedback, ensuring timely and effective communication.

• Social Media Management and Communications:
• Work alongside 42 Malaysia’s Digital Marketing team to assist in creation of engaging content that highlights campus life, student achievements, and educational opportunities.
• Support the production of press releases, articles and other materials as needed.

• Additional Duties:
• Collaborate with the 42 Malaysia marketing team for promotional activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for campus services and student experiences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Education, or a related field preferred. Also open to candidates without a formal degree who can demonstrate equivalent experience and skills in event and community engagement, or similar roles.
• Proven experience in event management, or a similar role, with a portfolio or case studies to showcase past achievements and capabilities.
• Passionate about education and youth with proven experience in community engagement, including with youth and student-led groups, community organisations, academic and government institutions, and the industry – particularly within the context of Penang.
• Able to speak and write fluently in English and Bahasa Malaysia. A third language is preferred but not required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills – able to engage with a diverse pool of people.
• Superior multitasking skills – ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and address time-sensitive issues.
• Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to details.
• Energetic, proactive and focused with a positive attitude and able to work independently.
• Early careers with 2 – 5 years of experience are encouraged to apply.
