A leading engineering firm in Malaysia is seeking an Automation Lead Engineer to support project teams in engineering and manufacturing supervision, factory testing, and commissioning of automation equipment in hydro power plants. The ideal candidate will have technical training in mechatronics or electrical engineering, experience with PLC systems, and strong English communication skills. This role will be based in Petaling Jaya with potential site visits in Gerik, ensuring that projects meet budget and timeline requirements.

Qualifications

• Completed technical training in the field of mechatronics, electrical engineering, or automation technology.
• Good professional English skills written and oral.

Responsibilities

• Planning, implementation, and case-by-case commissioning of automation projects.
• Direct technical contact person for customers.
• Technical support of the sales department in preparation of offers.

Skills

Interest in hydropower plants

Experience with industry-standard PLC

Knowledge of SCADA technology

Job description

The Automation Lead Engineer is responsible for supporting the project team in Engineering, Manufacturing supervision, Factory Testing, Site Installation Support and Commissioning Support for the automation equipment (like Unit automation, coordination and support for digital governor and excitation system, SCADA system in the powerplants and the dispatching centers, interfacing to various stakeholders) in the hydro power plant and the dispatch center in accordance with the contractual requirements as well as applicable standards, regulations and law.

The automation Lead Engineer monitors the project budget and time schedule and works closely with the Voith automation and project team.

The automation Lead Engineer will be located in Petaling Jaya. Once site operations and subcontractor activities begin, the role might be required to be present at project site in Gerik.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning, implementation and case-by-case commissioning of automation projects
• Direct technical contact person for customers
• Technical support of the sales department in the preparation of offers, project planning and customer training
• Support for local souring of automation system components
• Technical acceptance of services from suppliers

Education

• Completed technical training in the field of mechatronics, electrical engineering or automation technology (technical college / university or similar)

Skills

• Interest in hydropower plants (from project planning to commissioning)
• Experience with industry-standard PLC and visualization systems, preferable Sicam A8000 and Copadata Zenon
• Knowledge of power plant control technology / SCADA and network technology
• Knowledge in cybersecurity is an advantage
• Enjoy dealing with customers
• Good professional English skills written and oral)
