Job description
Overview

Ayrshire (Geog)

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

At Scottish Water we focus on how water reaches homes and how leaks are kept under control. We are looking for a Network Service Operator – Leakage to join our team in the West area. You’ll be part of a team working to monitor and maintain our water network, managing leakage and pressure to help keep water flowing reliably and efficiently. This role protects our vital water supply and supports regulatory targets, with safety, innovation, and best practice at its heart.

What you’ll do
  • Maintain District Metered Area (DMA) meters and equipment, ensuring everything is operating correctly.
  • Carry out leakage surveys and sweeps to monitor the network’s health.
  • Isolate and re-commission parts of the distribution network and perform step testing to identify issues.
  • Install and monitor leakage detection equipment; calibrate and repair loggers, meters, and other essential gear.
  • Collect and interpret data from sources such as Nightline data and DMA reports to spot potential leaks early.
  • Set up, programme, and deploy data-logging devices to support leakage work.
  • Occasionally participate in sampling when required.
What you’ll need
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to keep everyone informed.
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility and time management.
  • Keen eye for detail to accurately record information and interpret data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
  • Strong Health & Safety mindset with adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Quick learner capable of adapting to existing and new computer systems.
  • Team player who collaborates effectively with others to meet shared goals.
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential, as you’ll be out and about across the network.
Looking out for you

We support work-life balance and provide benefits beyond the role.

  • 38 days of holiday per year (including public holidays), with the option to buy five more days.
  • Paid time off to volunteer in your community.
  • Family-friendly policies for adoption, maternity, and parental leave.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Pension with know-what-you’ll-get at retirement and life assurance.
  • Annual company bonus; SW Splash rewards program for savings on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
  • This role is Grade 5. Starting salary is £32,650, with progression to a maximum of £38,610.
  • Pre-employment screening (references, criminal record checks, license checks) will be conducted by a third party; permission will be obtained before checks start.
  • Applications are open until 1 October 2025 at midnight.
  • Other notes: Scottish taxpayers required; home address must be in Scotland or you agree to move within three months of joining.
  • Data privacy: records of applicants not submitted in the last 12 months will be automatically deleted; no action required by you.
