ROLE- Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services)

TERM- Permanent

My client works within the building services industry. They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Bolton on a permanent basis.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:

• At least 5 years’ experience in a similar Design Engineering / CAD Operation position
• Previous experience in a similar role in a Building services or Industrial environment
• Be proficient using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo etc.
• Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Good theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge of core principles and tight tolerances
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Experience with thermal structure & HVAC sizing
• Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
• Have the ability to work well alone as well as part of a small multi-disciplinary team

The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve:

• Using CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
• Liaising with manufacturing providers
• Being involved in final assembly of products
• Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
• Updating 3D models and drawings
• Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
• Checking drawings for sign off
• Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects

The detail design (water) delivery team is based in Costain\'s Aviator Way offices in Manchester. The team provides multi-discipline engineering services to our water sector providing a variety of sustainable and efficient solutions. Our water team are a small and growing specialised team within Costain\'s overall and much larger Engineering services team covering multiple sectors including Energy, Road, Rail and Defence. Reporting to our Head of Engineering as Technical Manager you will be leading our water team\'s Engineering and Design effort and provide technical assurance across a range of clean and wastewater schemes covering the nation\'s major water utility providers. Our engineering services support to the water sector includes the early contractor involvement phases, concept studies, outline design, detail design, through to construction and commissioning. Responsibilities

• To provide technical assurance across teams of design mangers and discipline design engineers in the development of water technical solutions from initial need statement through optioneering, solution development, value engineering, detail design and construction support.
• Ensure affordable design solutions are developed within project budget and solution risk is appropriately managed and communicated throughout the solution development process.
• Establish collaborative working relationships with the client, design teams, construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
• Ensure sustainable design solutions are completed in accordance with CDM Regulations.
• Ensure design solutions meet all the requirements of the programme\'s systems and governance procedures.
• Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations.
• Maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
• Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.
• In all internal and external contact, present a professional and positive image of Costain as well as maintaining mutually constructive, positive, and beneficial relationships.
• Take all reasonable steps to ensure appropriate confidentiality.

• Experience of technical project delivery in a design-build environment
• Experience in the Water Treatment Industry
• Experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary design teams
• Must be delivery-driven with the ability to set targets, manage and motivate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver to time, cost and quality objectives
• Technical and management skills
• Able to identify and manage project/programme risk
• Able to identify and manage changes to project scope
• Degree in Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer.

The Costain Asset Optimisation Team provides wastewater process engineering consultancy to support our clients across the UK to get the very best from their assets and programmes. We are an agile technical team of process engineers working on the front line with operational teams to develop innovative practical and digital process solutions. Our team delivers optimisation studies at feasibility, concept, optioneering and preliminary design stages to mitigate risk, return sites to compliance, or enable low or no build solutions to be provided.

Currently, we have a surge in engineering and design workload in the water sector and are actively recruiting for a Senior Process Engineer to support AMP8 for clients including United Utilities, Severn Trent Water, Southern Water, Thames Water and Northumbrian Water.

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will provide strategic support our frameworks to define and shape water projects and programmes as well manage the execution of asset optimisation projects and lead teams to propose, develop, and define process optimisation solutions.

Desirable

Comprehensive knowledge of the UK Regulatory environment.

Experience in the full project life cycle: scoping, outline design, detailed design, construction support commissioning and handover.

Proven background in process engineering definition including development of mass balance, data analysis, design calculations, technology selection, major equipment and package datasheet specification, process flow diagrams, process control philosophies and P&ID\'s.

Excellent commercial awareness and business development skills

Essential

A degree qualification in a process related discipline.

Desirable

Chartered Engineer and member of a relevant engineering institution e.g. CIWEM, IChemE.
