Offer Description

About LJMU

At Liverpool John Moores University, our students thrive because of the people who teach, guide, and inspire them, we truly make a difference. Every year, our commitment to exceptional education attracts talented students from across the UK and the world. This growth is fuelled by inspirational academics, professionals who bring vision, passion, and expertise to their disciplines.

Driven by our continued growth in student numbers and our commitment to delivering outstanding learning, teaching, and research opportunities for our students, we are expanding our academic community. As part of this growth, we are creating a number of key academic positions that will play an integral role in shaping our university’s next chapter.

About the School of Nursing, Public and Allied Health

The new School of Nursing, Public and Allied Health has been established to strengthen our focus on multidisciplinary education, research, and clinical practice. As part of the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology, and Science (HITS), the school plays a pivotal role in advancing the regional healthcare workforce agenda and collaborates with multiple agencies to address current and emerging challenges in health and social care.

Our professoriate and wider academic teams are committed to tackling health inequalities, disease burden, social exclusion, and deprivation across local communities and beyond. Our research is already shaping practice and policy, and we are eager to build on this success.

We are therefore delighted to invite applications for the position of Professor of Nursing to further expand and strengthen our research portfolio.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an exceptional nurse researcher to join our professoriate. You will have an outstanding record of securing externally competitive research funding, producing high-quality publications, and supervising research students. Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Dean), School Directors, Associate Deans, Professional Support Services, and academic colleagues, you will act as a key leader and expert advisor – driving excellence in research, teaching, and innovation. As an authority in the nursing profession, you will bring a strong research profile, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to advancing nursing practice through innovation and evidence-based approaches.

You will be a Registered Nurse with a Ph.D. in Nursing or a related discipline, a proven record of producing high-quality research, and be able to evidence significant grant acquisition. You will have experience of successfully supervising postgraduate research students and strong leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills. You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to influence practice and policy through research.

You will benefit from our excellent partnerships across the university, health and social care sectors, and commercial organisations. In turn, you will inspire and mentor colleagues – helping them reach their full potential while continuing to achieve your own professional goals.

What we offer

We offer a supportive and ambitious academic environment that values innovation, collaboration, and impact. You will have access to outstanding research facilities, strong interdisciplinary networks, and the opportunity to shape the future of nursing education and practice within a forward‑thinking faculty.

This is a key moment to join a welcoming, ambitious, and research-informed university community that places students at the heart of everything we do. We value and invest in our staff, offering meaningful opportunities for professional development, scholarship support, and clear internal promotion routes.

As well as outstanding development support, we also offer:

  • A low contractual 35‑hour week
  • Generous annual leave entitlement and Christmas period closure with the option to purchase additional annual leave
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Family friendly policies
  • Car and travel loan schemes

We are also investing in our staff and students by creating a busy and thriving campus, the hubs of which are our friendly and inclusive Student Life, Redmonds, Tithebarn and Byrom Street buildings. Our staff are visible and present for our students and this all adds to the fantastic student experience of living and studying in such a vibrant city. We see our staff as very much part of this community and value their contribution to the success of LJMU, Liverpool and the wider northwest region.

If you’re inspired by the idea of joining a growing university and bringing your expertise to a community where you can truly make a difference, we look forward to hearing from you.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance will be required for this post at the appropriate level and Occupational Health clearance is required for the posts regulated by the NMC (to be undertaken upon appointment).

We would encourage applications from all individuals who meet the advert criteria, but would particularly encourage applications from women, ethnically diverse groups, LGBTQ+ groups, and disabled people. The University is proud of its commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and endeavours to cultivate a staff base that is representative of society. Please let us know if you require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process.

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
