Job description
Overview

You will join a dynamic team of surveyors, projects managers and geomatics professionals who will support you through your studies and involve you in various projects across our key sectors including water, power, telecoms and transport.

Responsibilities
  • You will assist in negotiating compensation claims
  • Liaising with landowners and working on large compulsory purchase projects
  • Information management - Provide data, information and advice for clients relevant to the surveying discipline
  • Health and safety - Recommend solutions to ensure safe and secure working environments
  • Construction technology - Provide advice relating to the construction technology of buildings and their materials
  • Law - Negotiate and agree terms for acquisition/disposal of property, standard forms of building contracts or other property related contracts and liaise with legal advisers
  • Consultancy - Manage instructions from engagement to completion
  • Building surveys - Undertake inspections and surveys and provide advice and recommendations to clients relating to building surveys
  • Prepare designs and specifications - Carry out the preparation of the design and specification of building projects from outline proposals to completion of the design and specification process
  • Administer contracts - Implement administrative procedures for the running of a construction project, issue instructions, deal with payment provisions, manage variation procedures and deal with completion and possession issues and the issuing of certificates
  • Valuation and appraisal - Prepare capital and rental valuations of land and property for a range of formal and appraisal purposes and prepare client reports
  • Land, property and planning law - Negotiate solutions to issues affecting owners and occupiers of land and property including at least two of management, sales, lettings, purchase and/or planning
  • Inspection and measurement - Undertake inspections of land and property, use appropriate instrumentation to take measurements, apply guidance and present measurements appropriately
  • Tendering and procurement - Provide advice and recommendations as to appropriate procurement routes and manage the tendering processes
  • Costing and cost planning of construction works - Undertake detailed quantification, costing and cost planning of complex construction works
  • Manage efficiencies of construction contracts - Manage the construction phase of a project, carry out life cycle costing and apply value engineering, prepare data, reports and forecasts
  • Information management - Provide data, information and advice for clients relevant to the surveying discipline
  • Health and safety - Recommend solutions to ensure safe and secure working environments
  • Construction technology - Provide advice relating to the construction technology of buildings and their materials

  • From day one you will be studying your BSc Honours degree in Real Estate accredited by RICS with Nottingham Trent University OR Rural Estate and Land Management at Harper Adams University
  • In addition to your attendance at university our training academy will support and guide you through your qualification, A Level in:
  • Three A Levels (grade C) or other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own car to visit sites and carry out surveys
  • Full-time role offered at end of apprenticeship if successful
About the Apprenticeship

You will work in a friendly and professional environment with like-minded individuals. You will start contributing to clients’ projects from day one and develop the skills and confidence needed for your career path. The 5-year apprenticeship provides knowledge, experience and qualification to start a career as a rural Chartered Surveyor. You will gain hands-on experience at the UK’s leading Utility and Infrastructure Surveying Firm, working on airports, road, rail, water, telecoms and power projects.

Benefits and Details

Wage: £19,500 per year. Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am – 5:30 pm, with some travel to sites. Apprentices will be granted time off for training and university block weeks. Start date: Monday 7 September 2026. Duration: 5 years. We offer a competitive salary and package; details provided at interview. Location: offices across England, Scotland, NI and Wales with opportunities to grow within the company.
