Senior Economy Designer - Racing

NaturalMotion
London
GBP 50,000 - 70,000
Job description

At NaturalMotion, we make games that wow people. We innovate to create previously impossible experiences that would not exist without us. We take pride in making titles that reach a large audience and creating communities that last. For the past seven years, NaturalMotion Studios has been named one of the Best Places to Work in the UK games industry by gamesindustry.biz. We are proudly part of the Zynga & Take-Two Interactive family.

We embrace a hybrid work environment. Within this role you will work 2 days per week in our London office and the remaining days at home.

Position Overview:

Our Racing business is responsible for the CSR Racing franchise, including the #1 racing game on mobile, CSR2 and the groundbreaking next installment, CSR3. We are one of the most ambitious, successful, and creatively inclusive studio groups in the world. Based across two locations – London and Bangalore - the team loves welcoming diverse, humble, straightforward and ambitious talent, aspiring for award-winning excellence. People who want to find a place where they will be supported and encouraged to do the best work of their career.

We are looking for a Senior Economy Designer to join the CSR3 team and help us craft a rich, engaging, and sustainable in-game economy that delights players and drives long-term success. Utilizing learnings, best practices and keen insights into the F2P Collection RPGs mobile space. As a Senior Economy Designer, you will own the design, tuning, and ongoing evolution of CSR3’s in-game economy. You will work closely with Game Designers, Product Managers, Analysts, and Developers to ensure that every system, whether it’s progression, currency, upgrades, or monetisation—feels rewarding, balanced, and deeply integrated into the player experience.

What You'll Do:
  • Economy System Design: Design, balance, and maintain complex in-game economies including multiple currencies, reward loops, sinks, and sources across short and long-term progression systems
  • Data-Driven Tuning: Partner with Product Management & Analytics to monitor player behavior and KPIs; iterate designs based on qualitative and quantitative feedback to ensure optimal balance and retention
  • Monetisation Alignment: Work with Product and Monetisation teams to create systems that support fair and engaging monetisation strategies, including offers, events, and premium content
  • Progression & Pacing: Design progression systems that support onboarding, mid-game challenge, and late-game mastery. Ensure pacing is well tuned to player motivation and business goals
  • Tooling & Implementation: Collaborate with engineering and tools teams to define requirements for economy tuning tools and dashboards; contribute to economy modelling and simulation frameworks
  • Live Operations Support: Support seasonal content, limited-time events, and economy-impacting changes with economy forecasts, simulations, and data-informed decision-making
What You Bring:
  • Experience in game design with a strong focus on systems and economy design
  • Proven track record on at least one live free-to-play mobile title, ideally in midcore genres
  • Deep understanding of free-to-play systems, player psychology, and monetization mechanics
  • Strong numeracy, modeling, and Excel skills; experience with scripting or database tools is a plus
  • Passion for data-informed design; able to balance data insight with player empathy
  • Excellent communication and cross-discipline collaboration skills
Bonus Points:
  • Keep up to date with market trends and do proactive analysis of economy tuning in relevant competitive products
  • Familiarity with Unity or similar game engines
  • A love of racing games, cars, or motorsports
What We Offer You:
  • Competitive salary and discretionary annual bonus scheme
  • 6 months fully paid maternity/adoption leave and 16 weeks fully paid paternity leave (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Pension plan, with a double matching employer contribution
  • Private medical & dental insurance and healthcare cash plan
  • Life insurance, personal accident insurance and income protection
  • Mental health and neurodiversity support programs
  • Company Employee Stock Purchase Plan (eligibility criteria applies)
  • Fitness reimbursement plan, worth £600 per annum
  • Weekly happy hours, seasonal parties and monthly social events
  • Annual rail season ticket advance and cycle to work scheme
