Associate Assistant Psychologist – Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service (Autism & ADHD)

Rate: £19 per hour | Contract: Associate / Self‑employed, outside IR35 | Hours: Part‑time, 20 hours per week | Location: Primarily remote, with occasional travel to Solihull | Reporting to: Clinical Director and Head of Neurodivergent Services | Level: Equivalent to NHS Band 5

Role Purpose

The Associate Assistant Psychologist will support the delivery of high‑quality neurodevelopmental assessments for children and adults, contributing to Autism and ADHD assessment pathways. The role involves assisting with assessment data collection, liaising with schools and professionals, and contributing to clinical documentation under the supervision of senior clinicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical & Assessment Support
    • Assist with the administration, scoring and interpretation of standardised assessment tools, including Conners, QB Check and other relevant psychometric measures, under supervision.
    • Support the collection and synthesis of information from multiple sources, including school reports and parent/client questionnaires.
    • Conduct structured observations in educational or community settings where required (occasional).
    • Contribute to the preparation of clinical assessment reports under the guidance of qualified clinicians.
    • Support agreed communication and feedback to families and professionals, under supervision.
  • Liaison & Communication
    • Liaise with schools, healthcare professionals and other agencies to obtain relevant assessment information.
    • Communicate sensitively and professionally with children, young people, adults and their families.
    • Attend team meetings and contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and service planning.
  • Administration & Data Management
    • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date clinical records in line with service and regulatory requirements.
    • Support the coordination of assessment schedules and follow‑up activity.
    • Contribute to audit, evaluation, service development and research projects where required.
  • Professional Development & Supervision
    • Participate in regular clinical supervision and line management meetings.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to neurodevelopmental assessment.
    • Work in accordance with BPS ethical standards, service policies and professional guidelines.
  • Scope & Accountability
    • The postholder will work under the supervision of senior psychologists and will not hold autonomous clinical responsibility.
    • All work must be undertaken within agreed service protocols, ethical frameworks and safeguarding policies.
    • The role involves handling sensitive information and maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Working Conditions
    • Primarily remote‑based, with occasional travel for observations or service needs.
    • Some flexibility in working hours may be required.
    • Exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing clinical information.
Qualifications & Training
  • Essential
    • Undergraduate degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1 or equivalent).
    • Eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
    • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
  • Desirable
    • Postgraduate study (e.g. MSc) in Clinical, Educational or Health Psychology or related fields.
    • Additional training in psychometric testing, structured observation tools, autism or ADHD.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Essential
    • Understanding of psychological theory relating to child and adult development, neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health.
    • Experience working with children, young people or adults with autism, ADHD or learning differences.
    • Experience working within a multidisciplinary or multi‑agency environment.
    • Familiarity with standardised assessments and clinical or educational reports.
    • Ability to accurately summarise and present information in written and verbal formats.
  • Desirable
    • Previous experience supporting neurodevelopmental or psychological assessments.
    • Experience conducting structured observations in schools or community settings.
    • Experience liaising with families, schools and professionals.
