National Grid Persons - CPCS Lift Supervisor (Contract)

Position: Lift Supervisor (CPCS)

Location: National Grid Substation Project (Specific site details provided upon application)

Duration: 1 Month (Initial Contract)

Start Date: 5th January

Rate: Competitive Day Rate (to be discussed upon application, based on experience and credentials)

Basis: Contract (Self-Employed / PAYE options available via umbrella company)

About the Role

We are urgently seeking an experienced, safety-focused CPCS Lift Supervisor for a critical 1-month contract on a major National Grid substation project. You will be responsible for the safe planning, supervision, and execution of all lifting operations involving tower cranes, mobile cranes, and other lifting equipment on site. This is a pivotal role requiring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take full on-site responsibility for the safe execution of all lifting operations in accordance with BS 7121, LOLER 1998, and all relevant site‑specific regulations.
  • Liaise with the Appointed Person (AP) and Site Management to understand lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Supervise and direct crane operators and slingers/signallers, ensuring full compliance with the agreed lift plan.
  • Conduct daily pre‑lift briefings ("Toolbox Talks") with the lifting team.
  • Ensure all lifting equipment and accessories are thoroughly examined, certified, and in a safe condition prior to use.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all lifting operations, equipment checks, and personnel briefings.
  • Enforce site safety rules and National Grid safety protocols without exception.
  • Manage the lifting zone, ensuring exclusion areas are maintained.
  • Immediately halt any operations if safety is compromised.
Essential Requirements
  • Valid CPCS Lift Supervisor Card (Blue Competent Operator Card required).
  • In-depth experience supervising lifts in a high‑risk environment, preferably on utility, transmission, or substation projects.
  • Proven experience working on National Grid or similar high‑voltage electrical infrastructure projects is highly advantageous.
  • Thorough knowledge of current lifting legislation (LOLER, PUWER) and industry best practices (BS 7121).
  • Excellent understanding of lift plan implementation and risk assessment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with an authoritative approach to safety.
  • Valid CSCS Card (associated professional card).
  • Right to Work in the UK.
Desirable
  • Previous experience with tower crane installation/operation on substation sites.
  • PASMA/IPAF qualifications.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS.
