We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, progressive, and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to work 3 days per week within the Mental Health Liaison Team, based at Hereford County Hospital.

We support patients with a wide range of needs, including self-harm, adjustment to illness, physical and psychological co-morbidities. Since there is no entrance requirement for A&E and perceptions of what constitutes a mental health emergency or crisis vary, patients are referred with diverse needs. For some, this may be their first contact with mental health services, making this a critical point in their recovery journey. The successful candidate will work alongside an experienced Specialty Doctor and Junior Doctor, supported by an established medical secretary. CPD time, study leave, and a study budget will be available.

The main responsibilities include:

• Providing medical leadership in Liaison Psychiatry to the Mental Health Liaison team.
• Offering medical support and supervision, conducting second-line specialist assessments, and prescribing treatments where appropriate, supported by the Specialty and Junior Doctors.
• Contributing to service development collaboratively with team members, trust services, and external organizations such as the Local Authority and Acute Trust.
• Working closely with other services to ensure seamless mental health provision and develop appropriate care pathways for onward referral of individuals needing further assessment and support.

The core duties include:

• Providing medical leadership in Liaison Psychiatry.
• Supporting and supervising the Liaison team, conducting assessments, and prescribing treatments.
• Contributing to service development alongside team members and external organizations.
• Providing senior medical advice, support, and clinical leadership, including leadership of the liaison team and development initiatives.
• Participating in general management and line management of junior and trainee doctors.

• Experience in training and teaching staff.
• Innovative practice and experience working with colleagues outside mental health.

• Provision of high-quality mental health services, as a trainee or Consultant.
• Experience in clinical leadership and team collaboration.

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• CCT in GA or OA psychiatry (or within 6 months of eligibility).
• Full GMC registration and Licence to Practice.
• Approval under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (or eligibility).
• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Higher degree in research methodology or leadership training.

• Understanding of current issues facing the medical profession.
• Knowledge of governance frameworks.

This role is subject to a DBS check, in accordance with legal requirements.
