A regional healthcare provider in London is seeking a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to deliver therapy for children with communication difficulties. Responsibilities include assessing children's needs, developing treatment plans, and contributing to legal assessments. The ideal candidate will have experience in a clinical setting and the ability to provide support and supervision to other staff. This position offers flexible working options and various benefits.
To provide a highly specialist clinical service with responsibility for a caseload specific to the role for children with developmental speech and language delays / disorders / social communication / feeding or swallowing difficulties as relevant to the role. To provide a service at settings within designated locality, working closely with parents/carers, schools staff and other relevant professionals, to enable children to develop their speech, language and communication skills and to access the age relevant curriculum.
To assess the needs for, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children referred within designated locality and presenting with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties. To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of children with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.
To understand and meet professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children’s Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). To be accountable for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.
The post holder will also provide line management, supervision and peer review support to less experienced colleagues and students, including second opinions. To assess the need for, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children referred to the designated locality, presenting with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties. To provide additional specialist intervention and support to children within one or more specific clinical areas e.g. Dysfluency, Hearing Impairment, Developmental Language Disorder, ASD, Speech Disorders and evaluate outcomes using formal and informal specific assessment tools.
To deliver a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service consisting of evaluation of interventions for complex and difficult cases such as tribunals as required. To assess children’s communication and interaction needs and provide professional advice to contribute to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments) and the annual review process for individual children in line with the Children and Families Act 2014. To deliver Speech and Language Therapy provision to children as specified in Education Health and Care Plans in line with the Children and Families Act 2014.
