- Lead and motivate the Benefits teams, ensuring performance targets are met.
- Manage and report team performance, including mandatory statistical returns.
- Oversee annual billing for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Handle complex queries and complaints from various stakeholders.
- Keep staff updated on changes in regulations and provide necessary training.
- Analyze data to identify training needs and support staff development.
- Represent the Council at appeal hearings.
- Promote a culture of fraud and error prevention.
- Support team members in decision‑making on complex cases.
- Provide expert advice on Local Authority benefits to internal and external parties.
- Produce reports on Benefits matters for senior management and committees.
- Identify and implement improvement projects to enhance service delivery.
- Stay updated with new technology to improve service offerings.
- Maintain expert knowledge of Benefits systems.
- Coach and mentor team members, conduct performance reviews, and identify training needs.
- Ensure secure management of information and report any breaches.
- Undertake additional duties as required.
