A local government entity is seeking a Travel and Assessment Resource Assistant to support the Home to School Transport services. We are excited to be recruiting a Travel and Assessment Resource Team Assistant to join our fantastic Surrey School Travel and Assessment Team (SSTAT). SSTAT is offering a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in a supportive transport services environment. Our team operates in a flexible, hybrid style with a combination of office and home working, with 2 days per week in the office. We will ensure that you receive a full induction and training, with regular guidance, support and performance conversations with your Team Leader; we want you to feel confident and capable in your role.
Children's Services provide a range of highly specialist services to vulnerable children and young people, helping them to reach their potential. Services are delivered directly to children and their families within extensive statutory frameworks. This often requires close working with various stakeholders such as parents and carers, schools, health services, police and voluntary organisations. These are sensitive areas of work that are of significant importance to the community.
As a Travel and Assessment Team Assistant, you will be part of the Children, Families and Lifelong Learning directorate and join our School Travel and Assessment team, who ensure the efficient and effective delivery of Home to School Transport services. We undertake operational tasks and processes in coordination with contracted transport operators, parents, schools, and other internal and external agencies. In this assistant role, you will help provide information, guidance and finance support to these service users and partners, making sure enquiries are handled promptly and in line with Council policies and government guidelines. All tasks are carried out with an emphasis on attention to detail, high levels of customer service and safeguarding.
You will play a vital supporting role in the team's mission to deliver and monitor the home-to-school transport service for children across the county. This is a complex, statutory area of work that requires strict adherence to policies and procedures. The Travel and Assessment Assistant undertakes a variety of support tasks essential to the smooth running of the service. You will work collaboratively with team members to provide a high‑quality, efficient support service that contributes to improving outcomes for children. This includes performing more complex clerical and finance duties, with a priority on ensuring all correspondence from families and partners are answered within agreed timescales. Day to day, your duties will vary depending on service requirements, and you will play a key role in providing a responsive support to the team, adapting as needs arise. We continuously seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, and you will work with the team to implement improvements and maintain a consistent approach across the service.
