You will receive a competitive starting salary of £27,694 - £29,064 per annum, depending on experience.

The post holder will be part of a team that plays a vital role in shaping public discourse and policy through rigorous research and strategic campaigning.

We are seeking a Campaigns and Policy Assistant whose role is predominantly focused on public-facing campaigning. Around 80% of this position will involve supporting the development and delivery of campaigns aimed at engaging external audiences including the general public, businesses, and supporters, through accessible messaging, content, and outreach activities. The remaining time will involve providing some support with policy research and briefings. This is an ideal role for someone excited by communicating ideas to wider public audiences, mobilising public support, and helping shape campaigns that resonate beyond policy.

The post holder will need to be fully committed to vegan principles and alignment with The Vegan Societys values. This will be a hybrid working role with occasional attendance at meetings and staff events across the UK and the main offices in Birmingham. The postholder will also have the opportunity to represent The Vegan Society (TVS) at events nationwide.

What we offer:
  • A fun and supportive team.
  • A solutions-focused atmosphere and hard-working environment.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and health cash-back scheme.
  • Cycle-to-work scheme.
  • Animal companion compassionate leave.
  • Ethical pension scheme (5‑7% employer contribution).
  • Death in service benefit.
  • 28 days leave + 8 bank holidays.
  • Climate Perks Policy (up to six days additional paid time off when choosing sustainable transportation for foreign holidays).
  • Central Birmingham office location.
Key responsibilities

  • Manage the campaigns inbox, replying and forwarding queries to the relevant teams.
  • Support in developing external and internal briefs for campaigns, as well as helping to coordinate approvals of campaign materials.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of behaviour change and public-facing campaigns.
  • Monitor and evaluate campaign activity.
  • Assist with campaign copywriting such as social media captions, blogs and briefs.
  • Liaise with other TVS teams internally to support campaign delivery.
  • Support at campaign events throughout the year where necessary.
Policy
  • Support in monitoring political developments, upcoming Bills and debates.
  • Identify stakeholder influence and engagement opportunities, and ensure ongoing engagement is recorded.
  • Work with the team to identify opportunities to raise The Vegan Societys concerns in the UK and EU parliaments, local government and devolved administrations, highlighting opportunities to engage and influence parliamentarians and ministers on The Vegan Societys key issues.
  • Assist with the logistics of organising events and activities at UK Party Conferences and international conferences, such as COP, where required.
Who are we looking for?
  • GCSE English and Maths Grade 4 / C / equivalent or above
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • The ability to complete tasks efficiently and accurately from both written and verbal briefings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrable interest in campaigns and lobbying, as a means of bringing about positive change for the vegan movement
  • Good general knowledge and understanding of vegan issues
  • Someone who follows a vegan lifestyle and is passionate about animal welfare, human and planetary health.
  • An organised and enthusiastic team player with the skills and ability to work independently.
