An exciting opportunity exists for a Band 6 Ophthalmology Nurse Practitioner (Part‑time, 35 hours per week) to join our team. The role involves evidence‑based care of ophthalmic patients, working autonomously in nurse‑led clinics and contributing to service improvement. The ideal candidate will be passionate about ophthalmology, eager to develop their skills and ready to take on leadership responsibilities.

• Provide specialist ophthalmic nursing care and deliver nurse‑led clinics, including intravitreal injections.
• Manage telephone referrals, collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and maintain accurate patient records using relevant IT systems.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff; contribute to clinical governance and service improvement.
• Plan, implement and evaluate care for patients in sub‑specialities such as Age‑related Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Corneal and Cataract clinics.
• Perform clinical assessments: visual acuity, intra‑ocular pressure, slit‑lamp examinations, indirect ophthalmoscopy, OCT scans, visual field tests and Pentacam scans where appropriate.
• Provide independent intravitreal injections, including consent, documentation and reporting of complications.
• Conduct telephone assessments and post‑operative or treatment reviews.
• Support ward teams and departments in ophthalmology services and promote evidence‑based practice.
• Participate in planning and implementation of new service developments and risk management in line with Trust policy.

• First‑level registration (First Level Degree or equivalent) and post‑basic training and experience in ophthalmology.
• Extensive knowledge and experience within ophthalmic sub‑specialties.
• Excellent communication skills, ability to lead nurse‑led clinics, and the capacity to challenge and articulate opinions.
• Knowledge of clinical governance, health & safety, NHS legislative changes, and computer literacy.
• Demonstrated reporting skills, ability to appraise and direct others, and a record of leadership & teaching.
• Experience delivering intravitreal injections and clinical decision‑making for patients undergoing these procedures.
• Evidence of knowledge of ophthalmic guidance and recommendations.

• Independent intravitreal injector or willingness to undertake the course.
• Non‑medical prescriber status or willingness to undertake this training.
• Experience in retention of clinical procedures requiring accuracy and dexterity.
• Virtual review of ophthalmic patients, audit knowledge and experience.
• Driver with access to a car.

Applicants must undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including an enhanced DBS where required, in accordance with the 2012 Protection of Freedom Act. The role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
