Mechanical Design Engineer
Job summary
A reputable engineering firm in Newmarket is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design new mechanical components. You will create detailed engineering drawings, support prototype testing, and ensure alignment with industry standards. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and experience in product design, particularly in medium-to-high volume manufacturing. The position offers a salary range of £30,000 - £40,000 and full-time hours with flexible working options.

Responsibilities
- Design new mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD.
- Create engineering drawings to BS8888 and ISO standards.
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation of mechanical performance.
- Perform tolerance analysis and apply Design for Manufacture principles.
- Support production with documentation and updates.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with teams and suppliers for innovative solutions.

Circa £30,000 - £40,000, depending on experience
Full-time, permanent position
Monday to Thursday: 08:30-17:00, early finish on Fridays
- Designing new mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks)
- Creating engineering drawings in line with BS8888 and ISO standards
- Supporting prototype builds, testing, and validation of mechanical performance
- Performing tolerance analysis and applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles
- Supporting production through documentation, updates, and engineering changes
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives across tools, processes, and quality
- Collaborating with internal teams and suppliers to deliver innovative solutions
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline)
- Some experience in mechanical product design, ideally supporting medium-to-high volume manufacturing
- Proficiency in 3D CAD - SolidWorks preferred
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing techniques
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or within a team
