An industry-leading UAV company in the UK is seeking a UAV Pilot to join their operations. This role includes diverse flying tasks, production testing of UAVs, and supporting logistics and safety management for operations. Ideal candidates will have extensive UAV flying experience, particularly in manual modes and BVLOS operations. The position offers travel opportunities and career progression within a supportive and inclusive team environment, emphasizing safety and innovation.
Job title: UAV Pilot
Salary: Negotiable (depending on experience)
Location: Maidenhead, Berkshire
Malloy Aeronautics Limited specializes in the development of heavy lift unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) for both civilian and military uses. Located in Berkshire, our operations are notable for their focus on in‑house design and manufacturing. This vertical integration means we control the production of most aircraft components on‑site, enhancing our ability to innovate and maintain high standards across all stages of development.
Reporting to the Chief Operations Pilot, the successful candidate will be fulfilling a diverse range of flying tasking within an industry leading UAS company, on some of the largest and most advanced uncrewed Air Systems in the world.
The role will include production testing of newly manufactured UAVs, trials flying to explore the envelope of new and nascent designs, instructing both military and civil clients from all over the world to operate our platforms and demonstration flying to showcase our products and their capabilities to new customers. This tasking is often away from our home site, and the role offers fantastic opportunity for travel, diverse flying tasks on a wide array of new and varied platforms, and industry leading training and professional development.
In addition to flying tasking, the successful candidate will assist in supporting the running of the flight operations department including logistics, maintenance, equipment set up and safety management, forming a vital part of safe and efficient operation of our aircraft both on the ground and in the air.
The role represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced UAV pilot, offering excellent career progression and the opportunity to join a fantastic, inclusive and growing team within an industry leading company.
Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK
The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation of UAV experience including flying in manual modes on Specific category (S2) platforms, preferably more than 50 Hours solo flight. BVLOS experience is highly desirable. Flight testing or demonstration experience would also be incredibly valued. Any experience of maritime / marine operations, flight testing and flight trials would all be of substantial value. Experience in the military UAS realm or commercial sector would further be highly desirable, but candidates from all backgrounds who meet the requisite standard for interview will be considered.
The right candidate must also be highly flexible to support operational tasking both at home and overseas. An ability to quickly assimilate and retain new information is likewise vital to keep up with a fast‑paced operational tempo, and to support the continued development and rapid prototyping of new products fielded to respond to new challenges, and emerging opportunities.
Given the requisite responsibility for the safe conduct of their flying operations, they must be able to deliver tasking independently, including demonstrating robust decision‑making skills and an exemplary approach to safety. We're looking for a candidate that is reliable, self‑sufficient, experienced, and above all, does not rest on their laurels, but instead is eager to continually develop.
Our company benefits from a streamlined process where engineering teams are involved in the entire lifecycle of our UAVs — from initial design through to production. This setup not only speeds up the development process but also improves the efficiency and effectiveness of our product launches. We value professionals who have a background in both research and development (R&D) and design for manufacture, as their expertise is crucial to our rapid and precise product development cycle.
