The Role:We are seeking an exceptional and dynamic Political Editor to lead The Sun’s political coverage across all platforms. This high-profile role is pivotal in shaping our political agenda, and ensuring The Sun’s voice is heard loud and clear in Westminster, across the UK, and on the global stage.
As Political Editor, you will head up our Westminster lobby team, steering our political coverage with authority, insight, and flair. You will be responsible for breaking exclusive stories, providing sharp analysis, and securing agenda-setting interviews with key figures. You will also need to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-platform environment, delivering content that resonates with digital audiences, social media users, and print readers alike.
This role demands a deep understanding of the political landscape, a proven track record in political journalism, and the ability to navigate the complexities of modern media. You will be comfortable representing The Sun in public, on broadcast platforms, and at high-profile events, serving as a key ambassador for our political voice.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead The Sun’s Westminster lobby team, ensuring we deliver exclusive, impactful, and agenda-setting political journalism.
- Represent The Sun’s perspective across all platforms, maintaining our distinctive voice in political coverage.
- Build and maintain a wide network of political contacts, from senior government officials to grassroots campaigners.
- Break exclusive political stories and provide sharp, authoritative analysis of key events and developments.
- Oversee the production of engaging, shareable content for print, digital, video, and social platforms.
- Collaborate with other editorial teams to ensure political coverage aligns with The Sun’s broader editorial strategy.
- Represent The Sun in public, including on television, radio, and at major political events.
- Stay ahead of global political trends and developments to ensure our coverage remains relevant and forward-thinking.
- Manage and mentor a team of talented political journalists, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

- Public Presence: Confidence in representing The Sun in public and on broadcast media, with strong on-camera and public-speaking skills.

Requirements:- Significant experience in political journalism, ideally in a senior editorial role.
- A proven track record of breaking exclusive stories and delivering high-impact journalism.
- Strong editorial judgement and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-moving news environment.
- Experience working in multi-platform publishing, with a keen understanding of digital and social media trends.
- A passion for politics and current affairs, with a commitment to delivering journalism that informs and engages readers.
