Overview

Our aim is to create a more modern assessment delivery system that sets us up for the future, supports our Senior Associates better in their role by building associate capacity across the system, further supports our customers, and delivers the best outcomes for learners. As part of a programme of modernisation, we are updating our senior associate roles and responsibilities across our qualifications. We would like to offer you the opportunity to apply for one of these roles.

Purpose

The Content Author is there to produce error-free, factually accurate assessments that align with the subject specification.

Responsibilities and expectations
  • Core Services: When carrying out your role, represent Pearson with professional integrity and:
    • Act at all times in a way that does not bring Pearson, its employees, or its representatives into disrepute.
    • Read all Pearson policies and guidance prior to undertaking contracted activities.
    • Respect the confidentiality of centres and learners.
    • Attend meetings or training sessions relevant to your role where requested by Pearson.
    • Adhere to deadlines and ensure that work is carried out to the best of an individual’s ability.
    • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a professional manner when carrying out services for Pearson.
    • Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson software, appropriate malware/virus protection, a suitable internet connection, and a secure email account.
    • Communicate with Pearson and its centres in a timely manner for all designated responsibilities.
    • Raise concerns if you suspect malpractice, maladministration, or safeguarding issues.
    • Inform Pearson of any potential conflicts of interest.
  • Role Specific Services and Expectations: In addition to Pearson’s core service expectations, provide role-specific services and considerations, including:
    • Ensuring assessment materials comply with the Global Content Policy, fully support accessibility, diversity, equality and inclusion, and sensitivity guidelines.
    • Ensuring all assessment materials are high quality and cover the assessment criteria as per applicable guidelines.
    • Ensuring materials are appropriate to the range of ability and provide proper discrimination and differentiation at all levels tested.
    • Advising on subject specialist matters and providing feedback during production.
    • Adhering to production schedules and notifying Pearson of availability that could affect deadlines.
    • Demonstrating that permitted question combinations provide balanced coverage of content and criteria where applicable.
    • Producing materials that are fit for purpose, clear, and error-free.
    • Providing accurate sources and, where applicable, enabling Pearson to request copyright permissions.
    • Ensuring graphics and images are from reputable sources and free from error where required.
    • Ensuring the mark scheme uses appropriate and correct responses.
    • Complying with current specifications regarding duration, reading time, number of questions, and other rubric requirements, with clear reflectance of these requirements.
    • Avoiding unnecessary repetition and ensuring distractors do not inform answers to other questions.
    • Reviewing, reporting, and marking up comments; producing revised materials as required during production.
    • Providing feedback on drafts at each stage and attending sign-off meetings as required.
    • Ensuring all associated materials are updated throughout production and signing off final materials.
    • Supporting, reviewing, and agreeing on modified paper amendments when requested by Pearson.
Experience and qualifications
  • Experience: You should have experience in, or demonstrate ability in, areas such as excellent communication, in-depth knowledge of assessment and curriculum development, ability to provide and coordinate training, and a proven track record of leading quality assurance activities.
  • Qualifications: Qualifications required depend on the qualification you are delivering. Please contact Pearson ahead of your application if requirements are not clear.
  • Vocational Qualifications (e.g., BTEC/FS):
    • A minimum of one full academic year teaching experience in the relevant subject area/sector within the last 8 years and/or extensive knowledge and experience in Pearson assessment, quality, and processes and national standards within the last 5 years.
    • A UK recognised teaching qualification.
