Your Role

Stockport has been recognised nationally as a great place to live and work. As a Team Leader Engineer (Highway Design & Construction), you will contribute to developing transport infrastructure that is green, inclusive, resilient, and safe. You will help reduce air pollution and lower carbon emissions, with Stockport’s growing network of walking, wheeling, and cycling routes and a state-of-the-art transport interchange. You will work on schemes that form part of the capital programme, aiming to make travel easier and greener and to connect people with jobs and amenities.

Working with experienced professionals in multi-disciplinary project teams, you will lead the development and delivery of schemes through detailed design and construction, through to handover into operations and maintenance. You will contribute to safe, efficient, and deliverable designs and support staff development and process improvement.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional with a strong background in delivering highways projects within the public sector through detailed design and on-site construction. You should be able to:

  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to meet challenging deadlines and design and manage complex highways schemes for delivery to site.
  • Lead detailed design of highway schemes with competing priorities and effectively manage supply chains to ensure timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • Apply asset management principles to inform long-term planning, investment decisions, and lifecycle management of infrastructure.
  • Have experience with active travel initiatives and consider placemaking in infrastructure planning.

You will also bring a solid understanding of project delivery from design through to site handover and an ability to contribute to staff development and continuous improvement.

About Us and What We Offer

The role is based within the Capital Delivery Service, Strategic Infrastructure. You will work with project-managed capital projects and highway maintenance teams. We are a committed, supportive and diverse team of staff, consultants and partner organisations delivering sustainable infrastructure schemes. There are opportunities to develop your skills and career while delivering projects with experienced professionals from across the service.

Stockport Council is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce and to upholding wellbeing, fair working conditions, and flexible/hybrid working where possible. We are proud to be recognised under the Good Employment Charter and to offer opportunities to all colleagues.
