Job summary

Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience as Clerk of Works or 5 years as Construction/Site Manager.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel.
  • Holder of an appropriate CSCS card.
  • Experience with high-rise residential projects.

Role: Construction Inspector

Rate: £32.00 per hour PAYE

Hours: 35 hours per week

Contract Length: 1-3 months

Overview

Our client is looking for a Surveyor to deliver construction quality controls and monitoring across a varied development programme, both on site and within the defects liability period, to ensure the highest standards are achieved and schemes are handed over free from defects.

You will also provide excellent front-line customer service by working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to meet customer needs and support departmental and team objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections, monitoring, and quality control of all site-based activities across assigned schemes, ensuring high standards and resident-focused developments.
  • Carry out regular inspection visits to projects and properties, ensuring works comply with contract requirements, specifications, and drawings.
  • Undertake snagging, attend handovers, site meetings, and end-of-defects liability inspections.
  • Monitor workmanship, labour levels, progress, construction performance, and defects on allocated schemes, providing feedback to the delivery team.
  • Escalate issues and report negative trends to line and development managers.
  • Provide written weekly reports (currently via PlanRadar) and maintain accurate records, including photographs, stored in agreed locations.
  • Identify potential issues early and report to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Review and comment on drawings when required.
  • Attend handovers and advise on the quality of schemes being handed over, ensuring snags are remedied before completion.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service, procedures, and Employers Requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, internal teams, and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
  • Follow Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures, undertaking training as required.
  • Meet or exceed KPIs on defects and customer satisfaction for allocated schemes.
  • Issue clear and coherent reports at least once a week for each scheme.
  • Inspect each allocated scheme at least twice a week.
  • Maintain strong and professional communication channels with stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
  • Ideally, a member of the Institute of Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectors or equivalent (CIOB, RICS, or CABE) with at least 3 years’ experience as Clerk of Works (or similar) OR 5 years’ experience as a Construction/Site Manager with a reputable organisation.
  • Minimum HNC, HND, CIOB, or equivalent in a construction-related subject, or a strong trade background.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to undertake daily travel requirements.
  • Holder of an appropriate CSCS card.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to report clearly and concisely.
  • Proven experience inspecting construction works, including high-rise residential, new build, and refurbishment projects.
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer care.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations and residential construction processes, including new build and refurbishment.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities.
  • Physically able to undertake inspections in difficult-to-access areas, including climbing scaffolding and ladders.
