We are seeking experienced and compassionate Band 6 Midwives to join our dedicated maternity team within the Children, Young People and Families Services Directorate. Based at MPH, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, equitable, and personalised maternal and neonatal care across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled midwife who is passionate about promoting choice, advocating for women and birthing people, and ensuring the highest standards of care.

This is permanent with full-time and part-time positions available, offering flexibility to suit your work‑life balance. As a Band 6 Midwife, you will work autonomously within professional guidelines, provide leadership and mentorship to colleagues, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence‑based care, supporting physiological birth, and managing complex cases when required. This role also involves participation in the on‑call rota and the ability to work across both community and acute settings.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver safe, evidence‑based midwifery care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods, supporting physiological birth and managing complex cases when required.
  • Act as an advocate for women/birthing people, promoting informed choice and individualised care, while responding appropriately to emergencies.

Job responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Clinical Care: Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised care for women/birthing people and their babies, including those with complex needs.
  • Communication: Building strong relationships with service users, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Communicating sensitively and effectively, especially in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Leadership & Supervision: Supporting junior colleagues, acting up when required, and contributing to a positive team culture.
  • Safeguarding & Advocacy: Identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns, empowering service users to make informed decisions.
  • Quality & Governance: Participating in audits, incident reporting, and service improvement initiatives. Supporting research and evidence‑based practice.
  • Operational Duties: Managing resources responsibly, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies and NMC standards.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Midwifery NMC registration
  • Educated to Diploma/degree level or above
  • Completed preceptorship development programme with post qualification experience.
  • Safeguarding (level 3) adults and children’s training
  • Neonatal Life Support
  • Neonatal and Infant Physical Examination qualification (NIPE) or working towards
Experience
  • Experience of assist instrumental births
  • Knowledge and experience to deal appropriately with obstetric emergencies in the absence of medical staff

  • Ability to cope within a stressful environment and with emotional women/ birthing people and their families and supporters on a regular basis
