Job description

Monitoring & Observability, Senior Specialist

At Interac, we design and deliver products and solutions that give Canadians control over their money so they can get more out of life. But that’s not all. Whether we’re leading real-time money movement, driving innovative commerce solutions like open payments for transit systems, or making advancements in new areas like verification and open banking, we are playing a key role in shaping the future of the digital economy in Canada.

Want to make a lasting impact amongst a community of creative thinkers, problem solvers, technical virtuosos and high-performance application developers? We want to hear from you.

As a Monitoring & Observability, Senior Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the current state of Interac’s Application, Infrastructure, and Services are robust, visible, and available to stakeholders for troubleshooting, performance analysis, capacity planning and reporting.

You will provide the technical skills and expertise to ensure the successful implementation and administration of the enterprise solutions to enable our support teams, developers, and system administrators to efficiently detect and remediate incidents as they arise and proactively address issues before they become incidents. This role will ensure the availability, confidentiality, and integrity of Interac systems while championing best practices for Monitoring & Observability. You will assist with driving the successful outcomes of the organization by ensuring the Monitoring & Observability components deliver views that reflect our customer experiences and business needs.

You'll be responsible for:

  1. Providing technical expertise ensuring the overall vision and roadmap for Interac’s core Monitoring & Observability functions and capabilities.
  2. Ensure the successful implementation and maintenance of Splunk, Dynatrace, and the Visualization products supporting all the Monitoring and observability needs of Interac and the RTR program.
  3. Work with our Service Integrator to ensure our vision and roadmap are integrated into the final consolidated Interac vision.
  4. Ensure the products under management are fully integrated into Service Now capabilities for one consolidated ecosystem.
  5. Ensure onboarding of new data sources in Splunk and Dynatrace.
  6. Managing Splunk Knowledge Objects (e.g., fields, extractions, tags, event types, lookups, workflow actions, aliases, macros, etc.).
  7. Modelling data to allow for data normalization across a variety of unique data sources.
  8. Ensure and support the writing of Splunk and Dynatrace queries for alerts, dashboards, and reporting.
  9. Provide oversight and direction in the development of Customer Journey dashboard and reporting to drive enhanced availability.
  10. Optimizing Observability Suite to monitor applications and infrastructure.
  11. Tracking new releases of monitoring solutions and ensure the deployment of patches/implementing upgrades regularly.
  12. Building advanced visualizations in Splunk and Grafana which enhances our ability to identify and respond to issues.
  13. Liaising with support staff from our key vendors for troubleshooting, coordinating maintenance windows, etc.
  14. Creating and maintaining operational process documentation for monitoring solutions.
  15. Understanding application flows in a containerized/microservice environment.
  16. Manage, maintain and ensure performance of all monitoring systems including data retention, capacity management and performance analytics.
  17. Work with external business partners and customers to ensure end-to-end service mapping and views are created to drive improved availability across the entire ecosystem.

You bring:

  1. A university degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or similar, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. A minimum of 2-5 years of work experience administrating Splunk and/or Dynatrace.
  3. Experience with ServiceNow (ITSM/ITOM) and managing tool integration with ServiceNow.
  4. Extensive experience working with Splunk, visualization products and/or Dynatrace.
  5. Experience with leading teams and providing observability vision and roadmaps.
  6. Experience with log and metrics collection and analysis.
  7. You are deeply familiar with application monitoring for Java applications & microservices architectures.
  8. Experienced in writing alerts, reports, and dashboard queries in Splunk or similar.
  9. Experience with automated pipelines and implementations.
  10. Experience with alert and notification management in PagerDuty or similar.
  11. Proficiency in working with both Linux/Unix and Windows systems.
  12. Knowledge in one or more scripting languages.
  13. You understand ITIL service management processes.
