Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
- Perform all duties in a safe manner in compliance with Kinectrics policies and procedures.
- Conduct and direct projects with a high degree of independence.
- Supervise, train, coordinate, technically direct the work of others and participate in short- and long-range planning.
- Manage project budgets, staff scheduling and allocating work assignments.
- Manage financial tracking of testing activities.
- Perform and/or supervise standard and non-standard field and laboratory investigations including compliance to Kinectrics’ quality control requirements.
- Interpret, analyze and understand testing specifications, technical drawings, Single Line Diagrams, or technical instructions from end customers.
- Support preparation of estimates, write technical work instructions, develop project specific work instructions and other client requested site documentation, including equipment layout.
- Develop, write, and utilize advanced computer systems and software for PD data acquisition and perform data reduction for the report generation for projects.
- Critically review test data and prepare technical reports written by self or with others.
- Directly respond to customer inquiries, maintain good customer relations, and solve problems and/or acquire new or repeat business.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by following good quality and safety practices in all aspects of work performed.
- Co-ordinate work across other technical electrical & mechanical field and laboratory disciplines within Kinectrics.
- High level of experience in transmission and power distribution systems including Utility safety protocols.
- On site troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of the HighVolt RTS 260kV/ 83 Amp trailers and auxiliary equipment.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of testing and commissioning techniques of MV, HV and EHV transmission cable testing standards in North America, Europe and Asia.
- Knowledge of testing HV and EHV cables through SF6 Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS).
- Present technical presentations in select conferences as required.
- Perform technical, logistical and other duties as required.
What You Need to Succeed
- Completion of a three-year community college in electrical technology or related/equivalent programs plus specialized courses in the area of electrical technology/engineering with emphasis on high voltage testing in the field.
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in field testing of transmission class cable systems.
- Strong understanding of transmission class cable components, their design, their installation and their test failure modes. Manufacturing and/or installation experience is preferred.
- Excellent understanding of and strong familiarity with test methods and test equipment required to either commission or maintain the health of transmission class cables.
- Superior leadership and supervisory skills.
- Knowledgeable in industry testing standards for HV and EHV cables.
- Knowledgeable in industry testing and diagnostic standards for Partial Discharge techniques.
- Requires knowledge of HV test requirements and standard test methods for HV and EHV cable systems substation equipment.
- Knowledge of the requirements for performing accurate measurements for partial discharge and low voltage testing in compliance with SCT36 standards. This includes troubleshooting skills for positively separate external discharge activity from internal cable PD activity.
- Experience in writing technical reports and compliance with ISO 9001 & 17025 procedures.
- Excellent written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in solving complex problems where solutions require considerable investigation to resolve and often require integration of a number of technical fields.
- Ability to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness in resolving technical, commercial and resource problems.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Requires strong customer focus, highly self-motivated and pays particular attention to details.
- Incumbents are recognized authority in field of transmission class cable testing.
- Works well with others.
