About Western
Since 1878, Western University has been committed to serving our communities through the pursuit of academic excellence and by providing students, faculty, and community members with life-long opportunities for intellectual, social, and cultural growth. We seek excellent students, faculty, and staff to join us in what has become known as the "Western Experience" - an opportunity to contribute to a better world through the development of new knowledge, new abilities, new connections, and new ways to make a difference.
About Us
The Global Health Systems (GHS) Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) program is an interfaculty program run jointly by the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry (SSMD) and the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS).
The GHS MHSc program provides students with a dynamic and interactive curriculum that prepares learners to identify, critically analyze and act on structural inequities that underlie the uneven distribution of health and disease within and across societies. Our systems approach examines the interwoven and inseparable boundaries of biomedical, social, economic, and ecological systems. A key distinguishing feature of the GHS MHSc program is that it equips learners with skills in leadership, innovation, financial administration, and project management.
We emphasize experiential inter-sectoral learning with local and global partners, providing knowledge and experience of diverse societies throughout the world. These experiences foster global community, advocacy, and reciprocal partnerships. Students immerse themselves in the practical application of key global health competencies during the summer term through a 3-week structured field experience (International Field School, currently in Uganda) and through integrated learning within a professional global health setting through the Internship, (~8 weeks with a community, academic, NGO, industry, or government partner, typically in Uganda).
Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator, Career Support and Engagement will support the administrative and academic operations of the Global Health Systems (GHS Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) program. This role is accountable for coordinating and delivering Milestone Series programming (Seminar Series, Professional Development Series, and Pre-Departure Series), internship programming, and student career development programming. The Coordinator manages all aspects of career development and engagement relating to experiential learning and international partnerships for the GHS MHSc program including planning, executing, and delivering major initiatives such as the annual Field School, and will build and maintain relationships with local, national and international partner agencies. The Program Coordinator will ensure that faculty and students within the program have the necessary support, information, and resources related to practicums, pre-departure, progression, and other related policies and procedures, and will participate in the program’s budget development process in collaboration with the Dean’s Office.
