Production Shift Supervisor – St. Marys, Ontario

Location: St. Marys, Ontario

Summary / Job Scope

The Production Shift Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the production floor during a specific shift. This role ensures that production targets are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are followed. The supervisor will lead, manage, and support the production team while adhering to company policies and industry regulations.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Achieve production, quality, environmental, safety, and efficiency goals; act as liaison with other departments when staff is absent.
  • Take on the responsibilities of another Production Supervisor during periods of absence due to vacation or personal leave.
  • Troubleshoot process and equipment problems to improve operation and material flow.
  • Identify and prioritize clean‐up efforts and develop solutions for persistent clean‑up issues.
  • Report safety or environmental issues and address them through work orders.
  • Supervise and coordinate production team activities, ensuring goals, quality standards, and timelines are met.
  • Monitor production processes, ensure equipment functions correctly, and intervene as needed.
  • Ensure all production lines are properly staffed with adequate resources and materials.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of production workers, providing direction and support for high productivity and morale.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, coaching, and development opportunities.
  • Ensure all team members are trained in production processes, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment and encourage continuous improvement.
  • Monitor processes to ensure products meet quality standards and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA and company regulations.
  • Investigate safety concerns and incidents promptly, implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure necessary materials, tools, and equipment are available; manage inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with materials and supply teams for timely raw material delivery.
  • Monitor production efficiency, identify cost reduction opportunities, and minimize waste.
  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, downtime, and incidents.
  • Document production issues and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements; encourage team involvement.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise hourly personnel on 12‑hour shifts. Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including training, planning, directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications
  • One year certificate from college or technical school and 3‑month related experience and/or training; or 4‑6 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Diplomacy when interacting with both union and non‑union groups.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
  • Experience improving and managing process improvements.
  • Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Motivated self‑starter with a strong sense of urgency to maintain operational functionality and ensure safe behaviors.
  • Familiarity with machinery, pneumatic and electrical equipment, and experience in an industrial setting.
