Nature and Scope:

The Fleet Runner position is a key part of a team that provides a well-maintained, safe, effective and efficient fleet of vehicles for Island EMS staff and designed to give optimal customer service. They are accountable to exercise the "highest standards of cleanliness available" in the industry. Fleet Runners are expected to conduct themselves in a safe manner.

The Fleet Runner is responsible for ensuring all ambulances and support units are safe, effective, maintained, cleaned, and stocked in accordance with policies and procedures as stated by Island EMS.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate all vehicles in accordance with all policies of Island EMS.
• Maintain and ensure proper documentation on all work orders electronically including quantity, part numbers, description, and time to repair within the required time frame.
• Ensure all ambulances based out of the Fleet centers are stocked.
• Complete drop-off and pick-ups of out-sourced ambulances and support units.
• Conduct all cleaning and decontamination required to the vehicle interior or exterior in accordance with proper policies and stocking per company standards.
• Conduct reasonable ongoing cleanliness of base during scheduled shifts.
• Demonstrate use of quality improvement in daily operations to assist with improvements and prevent liabilities.
• Observe and comply with all safe work practices, wear protective clothing, and report unsafe conditions to manager.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education.
• Valid Class 4 driver's license.
• Criminal Record Check issued within 60 days.
• Driver's abstract issued within 60 days.
• One to two years of related experience and excellent working knowledge of inventory control processes and vehicle detailing and preventive maintenance programs.
• Experience working in an emergency services or communications environment considered an asset.
• Completed courses in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and other courses related to ambulance manufacturing, repair, inventory control, and cleaning or are willing to obtain.

Work will be conducted at Island EMS base(s), with occasional travel to bases, dealers, manufacturers, and maintenance facilities outside base when required. Exposure to low to moderate noise levels. Work includes moderate lifting and working with cleaning supplies and chemicals. Potential exposures to contaminated items.

Irregular work schedules possibly shift work and overtime as needed. Service centers can be cluttered, greasy, and dirty at times. The employee will spend various periods of sitting, standing, walking, crouching, lifting, and/or carrying light objects. Required to maintain one position for possible long periods of time, such as sitting, standing, or driving.
