What is the Opportunity?

Aecon is seeking a Business Development Manager to join the Urban Transportation Solutions group to support dynamic transit projects. We are proud to support projects that are committed to faster and more convenient travel, ultimately improving transportation experiences. This starts with bringing aboard the best possible team!

What You'll Do Here:

  1. Collaborate to develop objectives and strategies in support of overall Urban Transportation Solution (UTS) business development goals in target market segments.
  2. Assist and lead the development activities and implementation of the Aecon UTS strategic business plan.
  3. Perform market research in areas such as market size, growth potential, and market shares.
  4. Track and report on industry events, partnerships, announcements to support helping Aecon better understand the competition, opportunities and achieve our desired position.
  5. Investigate and work with internal stakeholders to assist in the development of new services and create go-to-market strategies.
  6. Collaborate on the pursuit of emerging market opportunities in UTS in conjunction with Operations Teams, Executive Leadership, and other business sector teams.
  7. Prepare and execute business development action plans for target markets/clients that are aligned between the Operations team and Executive team.
  8. Keep pursuit lists / CRM current, develop robust monitoring and reporting including classification and categorization of opportunities.
  9. Organize and prepare submittals for various pre-qualification and Expressions of Interest documentation, in collaboration with the proposals group.
  10. Establish a strategy for success on all proposals, leveraging input from cross-disciplined teams to ensure alignment.
  11. Participate in the preparation of proposals and follow up with clients.
  12. Provide advice, liaison, planning, etc. to prospective and current clients.
  13. Establish and maintain effective contact with clients, including post-award contact. Identify new work leads and manage lead follow-up.
  14. Work closely with Bid leads and the Director, Business Development to leverage Aecon’s strength and proposal winning strategies.
  15. Prepare/advise on annual revenue targets and budgets and update as required.
  16. Conduct marketing and communications activities as needed to support strategic initiatives.
  17. Interface with the senior members of Operating Sector (UTS) within Aecon as well as our clients. Interface joint initiatives between sectors, with partnering organizations (e.g. JV’s).
  18. Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.

What You Bring To The Team:

  1. Technical background: Bachelor’s Degree field, Master’s Degree in related field, or demonstrable equivalent experience (MBA Preferred).
  2. Minimum 8 years of experience in the business development field for major infrastructure projects.
  3. Business analytical skills and knowledge of basic negotiating approaches.
  4. Commercial knowledge – solid understanding of the various client’s commercial approach for procuring work.
  5. Strong facilitation skills to validate and understand complex business-related (or market) problems and to clearly understand, define and communicate problems to internal stakeholders.
  6. Ability to understand business problems and challenges and proactively identify options for consideration appropriately mitigate impact to the business.
  7. Ability to report data and analyze data for relevant trends.
  8. Well organized, energetic and able to work well under pressure.
  9. Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect; is effective both inside and outside the organization, on both general information and hot and controversial topics.
