Overview

CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Manager, Strategic Initiatives (SIM), reporting to the Director, Strategic and Cross-Sector Programs. The SIM will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to support CSA Group’s work in its newest standardization area of agriculture and agrifood, as well as additional emerging standard development programs. This includes activities across a broad range of technical areas such as agricultural data and automation, food loss and waste reduction, agricultural genomics, precision agriculture, ag safety, regenerative agriculture and soil health. The SIM will support work across current workstreams, as well as future emerging sectors and sub-sectors identified by CSA Group’s Standards Development and Strategic Development teams. This role involves advancing proactive, leading-edge initiatives to support standard development activities, identifying emerging trends and technologies, and building relationships with key public and private organizations to pursue opportunities for collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and leadership outside of direct reporting relationships to motivate staff to achieve strategic objectives, build consensus, obtain buy-in, and present recommendations orally and in writing.
  • Participate in defining functional strategies and lead aspects of strategy implementation; monitor and review active and planned initiatives against the plan, recommending adjustments as necessary.
  • Identify development opportunities related to new business, new markets, portfolio changes, or enhancements to meet program and cross-divisional goals.
  • Support market strategies with business development activities to achieve short-term and long-term revenue objectives, including networking and liaison with members and clients.
  • Deliver excellent stakeholder relationship management to build support for key initiatives, including development and management of strategic alliances, issue monitoring, and representation in external forums.
  • Monitor external and internal environments for relevant opportunities.
  • Interface with Government Relations and Policy to monitor key policy developments across North America and internationally; provide policy and government relations support as needed.
  • Promote reference to CSA Group standards in legislation and programs as appropriate.
Education
  • Education : An undergraduate or graduate degree in a science or engineering discipline, or other related area of study. A PhD would be considered an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in relationship management, business planning, project management and budgeting, with 3-5 years’ experience in Standards Development or Project Management.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a Business, Government or Not-for-Profit environment.
  • Experience in standards development.
  • Experience with business development and planning.
  • Experience delivering formal presentations to senior-level management and large audiences.
  • Strong understanding of funding and research opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of federal/provincial/territorial government priorities and industry sector plans.
  • Expertise in preparation of complex applications and proposals.
Skills
  • Creative thinking, initiative, and ability to lead by influence.
  • Facilitation and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Self-management, ability to influence without direct authority, and multi-project management.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Travel
