What You’ll Be Doing

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital, grow, and invest actively throughout global markets and key financial centres around the world. Our vision is to be our clients’ preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services, both in Canada and in markets where our core competencies can be exported. The Capital Markets mission is to bring Canadian Capital Markets products to Canada and the rest of the world, and to bring the world to Canada.

As a Market Data Steward, you will be responsible for managing metadata, ensuring data quality, and implementing data controls on datasets within Capital Markets, with a particular focus on Market Data. This individual will also contribute to the enhancement of Data Governance tools and dashboards. The role is part of a centralized Data Governance Team within the CAO office of Capital Markets, and involves close collaboration with Data Owners, Data Stewards, Data Custodians, and other key stakeholders across Capital Markets.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. Details on your work arrangement (proportion of on-site and remote work) will be discussed at the time of your interview.

How You’ll Succeed
  • Data Governance Implementation and Collaboration: You will implement Data Governance for datasets by following Capital Markets data procedures and processes, while incorporating input from governance bodies such as the Data Governance Working Groups and the Capital Markets Data Governance Council, with a particular focus on Market Data. You will collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to identify Critical Data Elements, and you will support your team members with additional deliverables as needed, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Metadata and Business Glossary Management: You will maintain Business Glossary content in the Data Catalog tool, ensuring accuracy and consistency by seeking approval from the Data Domain Steward and incorporating input from a diverse range of data stakeholders.

  • Data Quality Management: You will manage Data Quality Rules within the centralized data quality rule repository, coordinating the definition of common data quality rules by collaborating with both business and technology data stakeholders. You will also oversee Data Quality Issues in the centralized data issue log, incorporating input from business data stewards and diligently tracking the progress of issue resolution to ensure high standards of data integrity.

  • Data Access, Sharing, and Tooling: You will document and track Data Sharing Agreements between sources and destinations by incorporating input from Data Stewards and Data Custodians, and by seeking approval from Data Owners. You will also manage data access requests for Capital Markets sources, ensuring appropriate and secure access. Additionally, you will participate in Data Governance tooling and dashboards by providing input on user requirements, performing testing, supporting enhancements, and managing the tool, all while fostering collaboration and inclusivity among stakeholders.

Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate experience in Capital Markets, Market Data.

  • You have familiarity with Capital Markets clientele, products and processes to facilitate conversations around Client, Transaction, Market and Positions Data. Experience in client onboarding and/or trade lifecycle knowledge and experience is an asset.

  • You can demonstrate experience and knowledge of one or more Data Governance and Management practices such as metadata management, data quality and data access management.

  • You can demonstrate experience or familiarity with data governance and management techniques and technology (Data Catalog, Data Quality, Data Transformation and Transmission).

  • You champion change management and collaborate effectively. You have the ability to work effectively with business, operations, finance, and technology stakeholders across various locations and asset classes. You are skilled in analyzing and implementing business processes, gathering user requirements in agile environments, and maintaining issue logs. Experience with JIRA, SharePoint, and Confluence is required.

  • You know that details matter. You notice things that others don\'t. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.

  • You are an exceptional communicator. You are able to convey both straightforward and complex information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. You document findings in a manner that is thorough and easily understood by others.

  • You are a collaborative team member who thrives in dynamic environments and is committed to achieving shared goals. You demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, effectively navigating changing priorities in a fast-paced and demanding setting.

  • You love to learn. You\'re passionate about growing your knowledge. You have a strong sense of curiosity and can quickly become proficient in new processes and systems.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
