This pivotal sales role is based in British Columbia, with flexibility for candidates in Surrey, Coquitlam, or other locations near a branch office. As a Data and Communication Specialist, you will be the ultimate subject matter expert for an extensive portfolio of data and communications products, playing a crucial role in driving business growth across the province.

In this exciting position, you will not be a traditional salesperson focused on cold calls; instead, you will be a strategic partner to the inside and outside sales teams. Your deep technical knowledge of structured cabling, fiber optics, connectivity solutions, and networking infrastructure will be your greatest asset. You will be instrumental during the later stages of the sales cycle, providing the technical insights and solution designs that close deals and build lasting customer trust. Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary subject matter expert for the company's full portfolio of Datacomm products, including structured cabling, fiber optics, copper connectivity, racks, enclosures, and active networking devices.
• Provide detailed product selection support, solution design recommendations, and technical specifications to customers, contractors, and internal teams.
• Collaborate closely with Outside Sales Representatives in customer meetings, offering technical insights and presenting tailored Datacomm solutions to meet client needs.
• Deliver engaging and informative technical product training sessions for branch staff, sales representatives, and external customers to enhance product knowledge across the board.
• Assist with the creation of project quotations, bills of materials, and recommend suitable product substitutions to ensure project requirements are met efficiently.
• Engage with consultants, engineers, and contractors to ensure the company's products are specified in new construction and retrofit projects.
• Work directly with vendors and suppliers to negotiate pricing, align on product strategies, discuss promotions, and stay informed about new technology introductions.
• Support branch locations in achieving their Datacomm sales targets by identifying growth opportunities and ensuring staff are well-equipped with the necessary product knowledge.
• Provide regular sales reports and business reviews to the Business Unit Manager, taking responsibility for achieving established KPIs and targets.

Qualifications

Skills

• Deep technical knowledge of copper & fiber cabling systems, connectors, patch panels, termination hardware, and other essential Datacomm products.
• Strong understanding of racks, cabinets, cable management, power (UPS, PDUs), and cooling solutions for communication systems.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into practical, understandable solutions.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a sales team environment, providing support and expertise to drive collective success.
• Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail, particularly in handling quotes, technical specifications, and product selection.
• A self-starting and proactive attitude, coupled with a genuine passion for technology and a commitment to outstanding customer engagement.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to think strategically about customer solutions and market opportunities.
• Proficiency in building and maintaining strong professional relationships with internal colleagues, suppliers, and a diverse range of customers.

Requirements

• A minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in the Datacomm, structured cabling, or low-voltage industry. Experience from a distribution, manufacturing, or contracting environment is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with BICSI practices and key industry standards (e.g., TIA / EIA, ISO / IEC).
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel regularly within British Columbia to meet with clients and support various branches.
• Successful completion of a criminal record check.
