A leading educational institution is seeking a Prevention Education Coordinator to develop outreach programs promoting student accountability and adherence to standards. This role involves serving as a Hearing Officer for misconduct cases and requires a Master's degree or relevant experience. The Coordinator will also manage marketing efforts, including social media, to enhance community standards education. The position demands excellent communication skills and a commitment to student development. Regular evening and weekend work is expected.
The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) at the University of Kansas (KU) works to address incidents of non-academic misconduct on campus and educates students about the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. SCCS seeks to foster a holistic learning environment through education focused on community membership and standards. Reporting to the Senior Student Conduct Hearing Officer in Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Prevention Education Coordinator develops and implements a full range of educational programming designed to support students’ understanding of the Jayhawk Values and adherence to the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The coordinator creates innovative prevention education programs related to hazing and other behaviors, as well as collaborates with other prevention educators on campus. The coordinator is involved in a variety of activities covering the entire student conduct process (e.g. investigating and adjudicating allegations of nonacademic misconduct), participating in the training of University Hearing Officers, and assisting with office outreach to other departments.
The primary focus of student conduct at the University of Kansas is educational rather than punitive. The guiding principle is to hold students accountable for behavior which violates the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities while preserving students’ rights and helping develop their decision-making abilities. SCCS employs a spectrum of resolution options to create conflict management experiences for students and student organizations. The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards exist within Student Affairs. KU Student Affairs coordinates and develops student support services and programs and serves as an advocate for student needs across the university community that contribute to overall academic success. Student Affairs extends beyond the classroom. Our mission is to engage the KU community in programs, services, and spaces that make learning possible.
This position requires regular evening and weekend commitments. The Coordinator’s work schedule will be adjusted accordingly to balance these commitments.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market‑driven expectations.
