FET Phase Mathematics Teacher – Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels (Ruimsig)

Nova Pioneer is seeking a dynamic Further Education and Training (FET) Phase Mathematics teacher to lead enquiry‑based learning in grades 8–12 at our Ruimsig secondary school in Johannesburg, South Africa. The role involves preparing students for IGCSE, AS, and A‑Level exams while fostering a supportive and innovative learning community.

Nova Pioneer is a pan‑African, independent network of schools that offers high‑quality, accessible education from pre‑primary to secondary levels. We use a unique enquiry‑based approach encouraging students to ask "why" and learn through exploration and collaboration. With 16 schools across South Africa and Kenya, we aim to launch schools and reach tens of thousands of students across the continent over the next decade.

As a Resident Teacher, you will lead instruction and planning for your subject or grade level, driving a rigorous, enquiry‑based environment the Nova Pioneer way. You will collaborate with Deans of Instruction for lesson observation, feedback, and coaching, and will support and mentor apprentice teachers.

• Deliver exceptional, real‑world enquiry‑based Mathematics lessons aligned with the Cambridge curriculum.
• Prepare students for IGCSE, AS, and A‑Level examinations.
• Utilise technology to enhance instructional delivery.
• Observe, coach, and model best teaching practices for new teachers.
• Infuse joy and passion to inspire student engagement and academic excellence.
• Set and communicate rigorous goals and provide student feedback.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress.
• Use assessment data to adjust instruction.
• Attend weekly feedback meetings with Deans to improve practices.
• Participate in daily team meetings, weekly professional‑development sessions, coaching, and organisation‑wide learning initiatives.
• Communicate with parents via email, telephone and conferences.
• Contribute to co‑curricular programming and at least one term‑long activity.
• Serve on collaborative teams, committees, and supervision duties (including occasional morning, evening, and weekend events).

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or a related field plus a Post‑Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is ideal; a Physics qualification is a bonus.
• Mathematics major (including Statistics) to the third year level at university.
• At least two years of senior school mathematics teaching (Grades 8–12).
• Experience or understanding of the Cambridge or IEB curriculum.
• SACE registered.
• Ability to lead a classroom independently.
• A passion for teaching and a deep concern for student success.
• Understanding and enthusiasm for enquiry‑based, student‑centred learning.
• Ability to connect with students in the specific age group.
• Team player who enjoys group problem‑solving.
• Technologically adept for instruction.
