The Junior OHS Advisor is responsible for reviewing, verifying, and maintaining contractor safety files to ensure compliance with legal requirements, company OHS standards, and project-specific safety protocols. The role supports the HSE and Procurement team in promoting a safe working environment and ensuring that all contractors meet mandatory safety requirements before commencing work.

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• Certificate in OHS (Samtrac / Nebosh) / Diploma in Safety Management.
• Working knowledge of OHS Act and related regulations.
• Previous experience in safety file vetting (advantageous but not mandatory).
• Computer literacy (MS Office, PDF editing tools).
• Good communication and report‑writing skills.

• Good knowledge and application of the OHS Act No. 85 of 1993 and regulations.

This position has the authority to:

• Decides whether contractor safety documentation meets minimum legal and company requirements.
• Determines when a safety file is incomplete or non‑compliant and identifies what corrective actions are needed.
• Recommends whether a contractor should be granted conditional, full, or no approval based on safety file vetting.
• Decides when to escape non‑compliance issues to the OHS Manager for final approval.
• Determines the validity of certificates, appointments, and training records.
• Decides when documents need re‑verification or renewal due to expiry or inconsistencies.

• Review and assess contractor safety files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., OHS Act), regulations, and company standards.
• Check the validity of mandatory documents such as:
• Appointments (e.g., 16.2, supervisors, first aiders).
• Risk assessments (HIRA).
• Method statements.
• Fall protection plans (where applicable).
• Training certificates & competency documents.
• Identify gaps, non‑conformances, or expired documents and communicate corrections required.

• Maintain a tracking system for contractor document submissions and expiry dates.
• Assist in conducting internal audits to ensure compliance with company HSE procedures.
• Support site inspections to verify that contractor practices align with the approved safety file.

• Prepare safety file vetting reports and submit them to the OHS Manager for approval.
• Assist with generating weekly or monthly compliance summaries.

• Assist in the onboarding and induction of contractors.
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions as required.
• Provide day‑to‑day support to the OHS team with administrative tasks and safety initiatives.
