Job Description
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

To outline the responsibilities and authorities the Technician has in relation to post requirements of managerial, technical and key support personnel.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Record, evaluate, and validate instrumentation for specific job data (LECO, XRD, XRF, OES & Wet Chem).
  • Complete tasks within the allocated time and plan work for operators to ensure that overall service goals of the laboratory are met.
  • Perform routine and non-routine analytical operations on specific instrumentation (LECO, XRD, XRF, OES & Wet Chem) as required.
  • Ensure turnaround times are adhered to for analysis work.
  • Perform all analysis as required.
  • Assist in validating new methods or modifications for analysis under the guidance of instrumentation seniors.
  • Report technical and managerial problems to seniors.
  • Adhere to quality protocols for accreditation of instrumentation chemical analysis.
  • Follow all quality, health, and safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in the working area.
  • Comply with Laboratory Quality Management System (ISO17025).
  • Record repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
  • Use correct consumables and chemicals for analysis.
  • Work in other areas of the laboratory or divisions if asked.
  • Follow all quality and safety requirements of SGS management system.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the line manager.
COMPLIANCE & AUTHORITY
  • Cease use of equipment that poses safety hazards or enter hazardous environments without proper knowledge and protection, then report to higher authorities.
  • Stop work affecting service quality and report to higher authorities.
  • Initiate improvement requests for deviations, identified issues, or nonconformities.
Qualifications
Education
  • Matriculation with Mathematics and Science.
  • B.Sc. degree or relevant diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
Experience
  • Operational experience in a SANAS 17025 accredited facility.
  • LIMS administration and operation.
  • Experience in instrumentation, data collection, and reporting.
  • At least 3 years of experience.
Required Skills
  • Proficient in using LIMS.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instruments and methods.
  • Knowledge of verifying calibration standards, quality control standards, verification standards, and CRM’s.
  • Managing Good Laboratory Practice.
  • Assist chemists with SANAS audits and laboratory documentation.
