Technical Production Engineer – Manufacturing
A well-established manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead and manage end-to-end production activities within a high-volume industrial environment. The role is responsible for ensuring efficient production processes, consistent product quality, strict safety compliance, and cost-effective operations. This position works closely with supply chain, maintenance, engineering, and logistics teams to achieve operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution
- Plan, organise, and control production schedules to meet demand and delivery targets.
- Oversee manufacturing operations across panel production, door manufacturing, and engineering functions.
- Ensure optimal utilisation of labour, materials, and machinery.
- Monitor production output and adjust plans to meet performance targets.
Process Optimisation & Continuous Improvement
- Implement and sustain Lean Manufacturing principles, including 5S.
- Identify and drive process improvements to increase productivity and reduce waste.
- Analyse production data and KPIs to assess performance and recommend improvements.
Quality Management
- Ensure strict adherence to quality standards and product specifications.
- Monitor production quality and address non-conformances.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues and customer complaints where required.
People Management
- Lead, supervise, and develop production teams across multiple departments.
- Provide training, coaching, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with labour legislation and internal HR policies.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Enforce safety procedures and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the plant.
Inventory & Materials Management
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials.
- Balance inventory levels to support production requirements while minimising holding costs.
Maintenance Coordination
- Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure preventative and breakdown maintenance is effectively managed.
- Provide hands-on support where required.
- Minimise downtime of critical production equipment and lines.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Technical qualification from a recognised institution in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Additional tertiary qualification in Production or Operations Management will be advantageous.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including lamination, pressing, cutting, and profiling.
- Knowledge of core materials and bonding processes.
- Proficiency in production planning and ERP systems (experience with Syspro is advantageous).
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience
- 5–10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Experience in building materials or metal manufacturing environments will be advantageous.
