Job summary

A financial services firm based in Port Elizabeth is looking for an experienced Tax Manager. The successful candidate will supervise the tax department, oversee the completion of Income Tax returns, and ensure compliance with deadlines. Candidates should possess relevant tax qualifications and experience in the tax environment. Proficiency in MS Office and Greatsoft is essential. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills and a strong understanding of tax legislation and administration.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Grade 12 qualification.
  • Hold a Tax or relevant qualification.
  • Experience in a tax-related environment is required.
  • Registered with the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners (SAIT).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the tax department employees.
  • Oversee completion of Income Tax returns.
  • Manage provisional tax administration and billing.
  • Consult on non-residency and exempt applications.
  • Quality assure completion and accuracy of tax returns.

Skills

Ability to research, interpret, and apply tax laws

Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join the Port Elizabeth team,

  • Supervise the tax department employees
  • Oversee the completion of Income Tax returns to ensure compliance and meeting of deadlines
  • Completion of complex Income Tax Returns
  • Manage the administration of provisional tax; meeting deadlines and the complete billing process
  • Consultation/ preparation/ submission of non-residency applications
  • Consultation/ preparation and submission of exempt applications
  • Preparation, completion, and submission of notice of objections and appeals when required
  • Oversee the administration of SARS-related documentation received, i.e. assessments and other notification
  • Control the input of data thus ensuring an accurate database
  • Quality assures the completion of returns
  • Quality assures the capturing of data
  • Oversees the organization, retention, and compliance of all tax-related records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory adherence
  • Assist and advise staff of matters relating to the completion of returns and tax administration
  • Controlling GreatSoft-related problems in terms of tax
  • Ensure delivery of documents, returns, and payments to SARS at the end of each month
  • Ensure that payments requested from clients are followed up regularly
  • Review all assessments checked before signed off by relevant directors, ensuring that penalties and interest levied by SARS, and the balance of accounts are correct
  • Resolve any disputes on assessments and accounts from SARS, relating to Income Tax
  • In charge of the complete dispute resolution process and billing thereof
  • Supervision of whole billing process via Greatsoft
Requirements
  • Grade 12
  • Tax or other relevant qualification
  • Experience in a tax environment
  • Registered with SAIT
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply the Income Tax Act, Tax Administration Act, and VAT Act for various tax-related projects.
  • Working knowledge of the Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act
  • Working knowledge of the SARS dispute resolution process
  • Proficient in MS Office and Greatsoft
