Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Compliance Supervisor to join the Port Elizabeth team,

  • Assist in the supervision of the tax department staff
  • Assist tax manager and compliance officers with the completion of complex Income Tax Returns
  • Assist the tax manager with the administration of provisional tax and meeting deadlines
  • Assist with the monitoring of the whole dispute resolution process, including drafting objections, appeals, complaints and the Tax Ombud complaints
  • Consulting and advising clients with basic tax queries
  • Consultation/ preparation/ submission of non-residency applications
  • Consultation/ preparation and submission of exempt applications
  • Preparation, completion, and submission of notice of objections and appeals when required.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of complex tax calculations and returns on behalf of clients (companies and individuals)
  • Assist the tax manager with the initial completion of SARS response letters and ensure that all deadlines are adhered to
  • Responsible for communicating the refund list to the partners
  • Oversee the administration of SARS-related documentation received, i.e., assessments and other SARS notifications
  • Assist and advise compliance officers of matters relating to the completion of returns and tax administration
  • Assisting compliance officers with GreatSoft-related problems in terms of tax
  • Provisional tax runs monthly and SARS Provisional Tax queries
  • Controlling Greatsoft-related problems in terms of tax
  • Ensure the delivery of documents, returns, and payments to SARS at the end of each month
  • Ensure that payments requested from clients are regularly followed up on
  • Assisting tax manager to ensure that all lists are updated and followed up by compliance officers monthly and sent to each partner – refunds, payments, disputes, and tax returns
  • Assist with resolving any disputes on assessments and accounts from SARS, relating to Income Tax
  • Assist with Tax Exemption applications and the preparation thereof
  • SARS liaison for the resolution of complex tax queries
  • SARS visits for updating of banking details and taxpayer particulars and other queries.
  • SARS appointments for all the directors
  • Ensure that all tax queries and compliance matters for the directors of the company are logged and the progress thereof monitored
  • Responsible for the SAIT learners and their relevant training
  • Monthly meetings with the tax manager to report on the progress of all tax-related matters
  • Ensure team members meet with respective Directors on unsubmitted lists
  • Compliance with the firm’s System of Quality Management (SOQM), policies and procedures.
  • Compliance with the firm’s Employee Code of Conduct which consists of the firm’s HR policies, SAICA, IRBA and IESBA Codes of Conduct.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 with Accounting
  • Tax or other relevant qualification,
  • Registered Tax Practitioner or eligibility to be registered,
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of South African Income Tax
  • Working knowledge of Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act
  • Working knowledge of the SARS dispute resolution process
