Netwerk24 has a vacancy for a sports reporter in Johannesburg, Pretoria or Cape Town. This position is ideal for someone who is energetic and creative, with a great love and enthusiasm for sport and a strong sense for sports news. The position holder will report to Netwerk24’s sports editor.

Duties

• Identify story ideas for sports reports that will resonate with Netwerk24's readership;
• Develop story ideas into authoritative sports reports in Afrikaans;
• Stay up to date with sporting events;
• Build and maintain a strong contact base that enables Netwerk24 to remain the market leader in sports news in South Africa;
• Write creative, strong and well-researched sports news reports using a variety of sources, and unique and engaging match reports;
• Assist with production duties that include publishing sports reports online;
• Willingness and availability to work irregular hours and often over weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing skills in Afrikaans;
• Experience as a sports journalist, in Afrikaans;
• Knowledge of the South African sports landscape as well as international sporting events;
• Understanding of the rules and nuances of the sports that are important to Netwerk24's readers;
• A sharp news sense;
• A broad contact base;
• The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
• The ability to work independently, but also as part of a team.
