Job description

Location : JHB / Cape Town

• Planning and design of HV power transmission and distribution infrastructure from 132kV up to 765kV.
• Responsible for handling multiple projects and prepare and provide guidance in the development of the engineering deliverables for overhead powerline projects including layouts and drawings, component selection, equipment and construction specifications and all associated electrical calculations, modelling and studies.
• Perform the necessary calculations and studies, including power systems studies on utility and industrial / commercial power transmission and distribution systems.
• Line route selection and PLSCADD based overhead power line designs (tower spotting).
• Development of project design documentation, technical specifications, perform concept and / or detail design layouts, and providing a detail design package that complies with applicable local, international and client specifications and standards.
• Engage with other project stakeholders and team members and coordinate overall design packages and requirements.
• Provide direction and guidance to junior engineers, drafters, and designers.
• Ensure design schedules are met including providing regular status feedback to business unit principals and project managers.
• Coordinate and review technical contract documents and perform contractor design reviews.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment by following the Company’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy, and applying Safety Management Systems.
• Identify and analyse design changes, modify design drawings and documents accordingly.
• Attend FAT & SAT activities.
• Provide engineering support during construction.
• Resolving and responding to technical queries from contractors.
• Plan and coordinate pre‐commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Attend and contribute to site and project technical meetings as necessary.
• Final handover of documentation as necessary.
• Prepare expressions of interests (EOIs), tenders and request for quotations.
• Assists and participates in business development and company marketing activities.
• Adherence to the requirements of Quality Management System.
• Participate in continuous improvement processes and Quality Management System.

Requirements

BSc Eng or B.Eng with 7 years relevant post qualification technical experience

B Tech with 10 years relevant post qualification technical experience at engineering level

ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist

Eskom distribution / transmission experience will be an advantage.
