Job description
Sales and Application Engineer

Division/Department: This role is performed for the Commercial Department.

Location: Can be located at either Roodepoort or Germiston office.

Position within Organogram: Superior 2nd Level; Chief Executive Officer; Superior 1st Level; GM - Commercial; Incumbent Sales and Application Engineer; Subordinates None.

Primary objective of the role

Apply your Engineering skills and knowledge in the application of our range of Positive Displacement (PD) Pumps and Multistage Centrifugal (MS) Pumps in dewatering systems throughout the mining industry. You will be a dedicated Resource within the Commercial Department and you will be actively involved in key activities such as the development of project proposals, tender submissions, aftersales support and product performance monitoring and analysis. Your role will require a thorough understanding of pump application theory and you will use both internally developed pump selection models as well as 3rd party software to facilitate the pump selection process.

Duties & responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Early‑Stage Project/Proposal/Quote Development
    • Assess feasibility of product range to application.
    • Prepare detailed pump selection studies
    • Assistance with system design and layout and pumping philosophies
    • Life Cycle Cost Analysis
    • Sub‑contractor engagement for quotes on bought‑in products such as motors, base frames, E&IC and valves
    • Proposal Compilation
    • Assist the GM - Commercial in communicating technical constructs, both written and face to face, with prospective clients.
  • Project Tender Submission
    • Assess Tender request requirements
    • Confirmation of pump selection
    • QA submissions and management
    • DRL and DRS review and management
    • Project programs
    • Sub‑contractor engagement for quotes on bought‑in products such as motors, base frames, E&IC and valves
    • Mechanical, electrical and Civil Submissions
    • Control and Instrumentation review and submission
    • Develop Scope and resource requirements
    • Prepare price schedule
    • Collation and submission of tender document
  • Aft‑sales Engineering Support
    • Commissioning Process Management
    • Analysis of commissioning data in order to develop Commissioning Reports
    • Analysis of condition monitoring data in order to develop condition monitoring reports
    • Customer Complaints Process Management (in accordance with ISO 9001:2018)

Secondary duties

  • Assist GM – Commercial with the development of marketing material such as technical presentations and case studies.
Performance
  • Ability to carry out all of the primary duties and secondary duties.
  • The success of the commercial department as a unit in terms of reaching its stated objectives.
  • Ability to meet project and tender deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 4‑year Degree in Mechanical Engineering (would consider Btech or N. Dip Mech Eng)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in pump system design
  • Professional Registration with ECSA (advantage)
  • Pump Selection program (SPAIX or similar)
  • Microsoft Visio and Excel proficient
  • Adobe Acrobat pro proficient
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • ISO 9001 implementation and reporting experience
